The CEO of Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, has commented on Grand Theft Auto 6‘s price, hinting at what players may be able to expect. Opinions may differ regarding what he has to say, but it does give an indication of the direction Grand Theft Auto 6 is going in.
GTA 6 will likely be one of the biggest hits ever released in the history of gaming when it launches in May 2026. The series has sold extremely well for a long time, and despite the increasing age of its predecessor, players are still buying GTA 5 and pouring money into its multiplayer component, Grand Theft Auto Online. The sheer amount of content and replayability of GTA will likely play a role in GTA 6‘s pricing.
In a chat with Variety, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick shed some light on the pricing plans for GTA 6. Unfortunately, he didn’t spell out the base price himself, stating that Rockstar would be making that announcement when it was ready. However, what he did say may provide some hints as to what players can expect. He notes that the company’s goal is to deliver more value than what it charges for its games, leading to “variable pricing.” He says that the team is focused on ensuring a great experience because “consumers have paid a fair price for it.” Zelnick also stated that it’s typical of the industry, as well as Take-Two, to launch a game with a “premium price,” as well as releasing the game with special editions, and that the overall price tends to gradually comes down after the game has been out for a while.
There are some hints that can be taken from this conversation. It seems highly likely that GTA 6 will launch with multiple editions at varying prices, to start. With Take-Two and Rockstar focusing on “more value than what we charge,” and given the sheer quantity of content in its most recent releases, like Red Dead Redemption 2, it stands to reason that Take-Two Interactive would feel Rockstar’s latest game would be worthy of a higher-than-average price. Whether that means GTA 6 will cost $80 or even $100, as some analysts have suggested, is unknown.
While it seems as though the trend will continue of games like GTA providing an experience packed with things to do, players on a budget can also take some reassurance from these comments. At the very least, it sounds as though Take-Two intends to lower the price of GTA 6 eventually post-release, so it will likely become more accessible to a wider audience as time goes on.
