Biggest Changes in The Edge of Fate

With the arrival of Destiny 2‘s first expansion of 2025, The Edge of Fate, players have a myriad of changes to get used to. Some of these changes are for the better of Destiny 2, allowing the content to flow smoothly into what could be the biggest change to the entire game in its entire live-service run. Before heading to Kepler and uncovering the mysteries of The Edge of Fate, it’s important to know of the biggest changes featured in Destiny 2 so that upon arriving, there is no confusion and an overwhelming sensation that takes over the veteran and returning Guardians.

A few things have been sunset in The Edge of Fate, so check in with what content has been removed for this Destiny 2 expansion.

    The Way Content is Delivered

    Less Can Be More

The usual yearly model for Destiny 2 involved an expansion and a plethora of seasons. Instead of a major expansion and 3 seasons, the yearly model for Destiny 2 has changed to feature 2 medium-sized expansions and 2 major updates. The start of this seasonal change comes with The Edge of Fate, with what Bungie calls Season: Reclamation. This runs throughout July to December, providing a 5-month window of smaller content, but players still have the Ash & Iron major update scheduled for September 9. Afterwards, the content explodes into another medium-sized expansion on December 2, with Destiny 2: Renegades, a Star Wars-themed expansion. These smaller drops should provide Bungie with enough time to provide expansive content, rich in story and activities, instead of following a hefty 3-season model.

    The Shooting Range

    The Shooting Range

Crafting a build is one of the many fun aspects of Destiny 2, but finding a place to test them can be a pain. Some of the content featured isn’t Power-scaled, which is why the addition of the Firing Range is such a good one. This change is a needed quality of life addition that players can find in the Tower, and it allows them to test out their builds, weapons, and mods on static enemies with their own control over the situation. Players can find all sorts of enemies to test damage numbers, spawning every enemy and every champion, along with testing different combat scenarios.

    The Importance of the Portal

    Destinations Are No Longer Required

    The Portal

The Destinations tab isn’t going anywhere, but it’s not going to be used for future content. Instead, Bungie has elected to design the Portal, a tab that can be accessed at any time, and where players can load into The Edge of Fate. The Portal is a central area where players can find the most modern content that provides them with powerful and pinnacle gear, from Solo, Fireteam, Pinnacle, and Crucible Ops. This is Bungie’s way to make things simpler, so players can look through the activities in the Portal to find something they’re comfortable running, along with the dedicated loot pool associated with it, so that they can forever farm great loot of their choice.

    Difficulty Changes

    Players Can Now Customize Difficulty

    Difficulty Modifiers

Speaking of the Portal, players can just enter the regular modes that Bungie has designed, but there’s also a lot more freedom in how these missions can be played. Upon selecting an activity on the Portal, players can head to the difficulty modifiers screen to change a whole bunch of options. Players can not only change the Power level of the activity, but they can also provide themselves with buffs and debuffs in the form of modifiers, which will enrich or weaken the challenge ahead. The harder players make the mission, the superior the loot will be, which is an incentive to master what lies ahead.

    3

    Loot Tiers

Weapons and Armor Provide Better Reward Scaling

    Weapon Tier System

Before The Edge of Fate, loot for weapons was tied to two categories: a default weapon and an Adept weapon. There were minimal differences between the two, other than the fact that Adept weapons had a slightly different coat of paint and a unique stat addition. However, The Edge of Fate has provided further difficulty options so that players can earn tiered loot. The weapons and armor have a tier system from 1 to 5, and each of these provides players with superior stats, greater mod selections, and enhanced traits. Basically, the higher the tier, the higher the damage for weapons and the higher the damage resistance for armor.

    Armor 3.0 Rework

Armor Archetypes Fully Change Build Design

    Armor 3.0

Armor has received a complete rework to its design. While Armor still has a bunch of mods to place onto them, with 10 energy in total, the actual armor stats have completely changed. Armor Stats can go all the way up to 200, and each armor stat assists with a different advantage. This helps to create unique builds, and players can hone their armor archetypes to build up more health, stronger melee damage, superior weapon damage and reload, and more. Each stat is important in its own right, but the Armor 3.0 rework serves to provide players with unique buildcrafting and a desire to seek out rolls with stats that benefit the player opposed to the generic Resilience stat that everyone needed previously.

    A Reset to Power Level

A Fresh Start For All Guardians

power level in The Edge of Fate

While veteran players might celebrate hitting quadruple digits with the previous Power Cap of 2,020, it’s time to embark on a new journey in which every Guardian is equal. Logging in for the first time after The Edge of Fate drops, players will be at Power Level 10, and so will every Guardian. Power 10 is the lowest a Guardian’s Power can be, and with a new Base Power Cap of 200, players have quite a way to go to become stronger. Power is tied to Weapons and Armor, and no longer tied to XP from Seasonal Artifacts. The higher tier content players enjoy, the more Power they have, with a Pinnacle Power Cap of 450 being the prime goal.
