Nintendo has finally given audiences a first official look at the upcoming LEGO Game Boy set, which will feature two brick game cartridges and revolutionary lenticular inserts to bring the iconic handheld to life in building-block form. The LEGO Game Boy kit is slated to begin shipping out on October 1, 2025, and interested fans can now check out a retro 90s-themed promotional trailer highlighting the key features of the highly-anticipated LEGO set.

The partnership between LEGO and Nintendo has already produced a number of popular sets, including LEGO Mario Kart kits and LEGO sets themed to major first-party IPs like Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda. LEGO previously launched the massively successful Nintendo Entertainment System console set, which was paired with a mini-TV build featuring Super Mario Bros., and players are excitedly counting down the days to the launch of the LEGO Game Boy.

LEGO and gaming fans may want to pick up their favorite Animal Crossing playsets soon, as most are now scheduled for retirement.

Bringing back the nostalgic advertising trends of the 80s and 90s, Nintendo has unveiled the LEGO Game Boy set with a retro trailer. The commercial features sneak peeks at the LEGO Game Boy itself, along with two brick game cartridges of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land. LEGO is also debuting a set of “revolutionary” lenticular screen inserts that mimic the old-school graphics of the original Game Boy handheld. While the brick-built cartridges and lenticular screens are purely aesthetic and do not provide actual gameplay, audiences have already been wowed by the realistic design offered by these clever details. The LEGO Game Boy set retails at $59.99 and is available now for pre-order on the official LEGO website.

LEGO Game Boy Set First Look and Details

The LEGO Game Boy set is touted as “a near 1:1 scale replica of the original Game Boy” with 421 pieces and features a directional control pad along with Select, Start, A, and B buttons. Just like a real Game Boy, the LEGO handheld has a Game Pak slot on the backside where the brick-built cartridges of Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land can be inserted. Fans can choose from one of three lenticular screen inserts, which depict either of the two cartridge games or a classic Nintendo start screen. A buildable stand is included for displaying the completed LEGO Game Boy, giving fans of retro Nintendo gaming consoles the perfect way to display the stunning collectible set.

Players have continued to voice an appreciation for LEGO’s gaming partnerships, with new LEGO video games rumored to be on the way and Nintendo brick sets sparking incredible hype among audiences. It is unknown how long the LEGO Game Boy set will be available, so interested fans may to snag their handheld kit while they can.
