Amazon has the Detective Pikachu Limited Edition Steelbook on sale for only $28. Released in late April, this 4K Blu-ray edition had climbed to as high as $42.49 last month (and prior to launch). The current $28 price matches the all-time low for this adorable collectible version of charming live-action Pokemon film.
Detective Pikachu originally released on Blu-ray back in 2019. At the time, Best Buy had an exclusive edition with a steelbook case. That version is long gone–Best Buy doesn’t even carry movies these days–and is regularly listed for ridiculous prices on eBay and other marketplaces. The new edition comes with a different steelbook case featuring Ryme City’s best detective.
$28 (was $33)

Detective Pikachu’s new Limited Edition Steelbook includes 4K Blu-ray and 1080p Blu-ray discs as well as a voucher to claim a digital copy. The voucher needs to be redeemed by June 30, 2027.
The front and back covers feature Pikachu’s smiling face with Ryme City in the backdrop. The interior art is a screenshot from the film featuring Tim Goodman with Pikachu on his shoulder.
On the technical side, this is an upscaled 4K Blu-ray edition with support for HDR10 and multiple enhanced audio tracks: Dolby Atmos, TrueHD 7.1, and Digital 5.1.
Here’s the list of bonus features found on all 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray editions of Pokemon Detective Pikachu:
- Alternate opening
- My Pokemon Adventure featuring Justice Smith
- Mr. Mime’s Audio Commentary (one scene)
- Ryan Reynolds: Outside the Actor’s Studio
- “Carry On” Music Video
- Creating the World of Detective Pikachu featurettes
- Welcome to Ryme City
- Bringing Pokemon to Life
- Uncovering the Magic
- Colorful Characters
- Action

It’s worth noting that Detective Pikachu’s standard editions routinely sell for cheap. At the moment, the 4K Blu-ray edition is $15 and the 1080p Blu-ray is $8.
Detective Pikachu played a huge part in changing the perception and expectations for video game adaptations. It also provided a blueprint for live-action adaptations of other storied game franchises with similar cartoonish graphical styles. Until The Super Mario Bros. Movie shattered records in 2023, Detective Pikachu was the highest grossing video game adaptation of all time. At the start of 2025, it still held the No. 2 spot. That didn’t last for long, though. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 dashed ahead of Detective Pikachu early in the year. Then it was passed up again by A Minecraft Movie, which nearly became the second video game adaptation to reach $1 billion at the box office.

Earlier this year, Walmart released the exclusive edition of The Super Mario Bros. Movie shown above, and you can snag a copy for only $28.
A Minecraft Movie’s Steelbook Edition is available for $38, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has two unique Limited Edition Steelbooks, one featuring Sonic and an Amazon-exclusive edition with Shadow.
In October, Amazon is releasing an exclusive Ultimate Collector’s Edition for Five Nights at Freddy’s. This 4K Blu-ray edition comes with a steelbook case and numerous collectibles for $75. You can preorder Five Nights at Freddy’s: Ultimate Collector’s Edition for $75.
