Developer Kinetic Games recently hinted that the popular title Phasmophobia could finally reach Version 1.0 in 2026. Phasmophobia was originally released in early access in September 2020 and has received many updates, as well as console ports, as the developers polish the game and continue to add more content.
Phasmophobia is a popular online co-op horror game in which groups of four players team up to investigate haunted locations. The game has been incredibly successful since its early access release, and it has already sold over 25 million units.
When Will Phasmophobia Leave Early Access?
- Phasmophobia could finally leave early access in 2026 after the Horror 2.0 update.
Now, Kinetic Games’ art director Corey J. Dixion told IGN that the devs already have plans for Phasmophobia’s 1.0 release, which is “probably in line with our Horror 2.0 update,” when they will finally feel that the title is “feature-complete.” Horror 2.0 is planned to be out sometime during 2026, so this hints at a potential release window for the 1.0 version. The developers of Phasmophobia still want to continue adding new maps and reworking some areas in the meantime, but it seems that these additions will not be as significant as the ones that will happen next year.
The Horror 2.0 update will be a major turning point for Phasmophobia. The developers have previously teased that it will “change everything,” as the entire experience is being reworked, which will make gamers feel as if they are playing an entirely different title. However, many details about the update remain a mystery, as the devs are keeping some details close to the chest to surprise the fanbase.
Last month, Phasmophobia received a new patch, which added three new types of recordable video evidence, as well as some other important changes, such as showing the names of maps when browsing available rooms in multiplayer, and the introduction of audio and visual cues upon completion of recording Sounds. Apart from that, the update also brought dozens of fixes to different aspects of the game.
More recently, Phasmophobia released the Grafton Farmhouse rework. The changes to the classic area include adding “faulty electrics, caved-in ceilings, and layers of dust,” and gamers can now also explore new themed rooms in the map, including a creepy attic and a seamstress’s room. Hopefully, these changes continue to be accepted by the fans, continuing the trend of 2025 being an excellent year for Phasmophobia and keeping players excited before Horror 2.0 finally arrives.
