Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has commented on the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, saying that his “level of conviction” is high. Zelnick seems fairly confident, providing reassurance for fans who are worried about the possibility of Grand Theft Auto 6 being delayed again.
GTA 6 has been a very long time coming, with fans only getting confirmation that the title was officially coming starting in 2022, but fans have been eager to see a sequel for over a decade. While GTA Online GTA 5 are still doing surprisingly well despite the single-player title originally launching in 2013, waiting over a decade for a new game has been hard on the fandom. Unfortunately, this feeling was only intensified when it was announced that GTA 6 was being pushed back from its planned Fall 2025 release window to one in 2026, instead. With new rumors circulating that another delay could be in the cards, the CEO of Rockstar Games’ parent company has now commented on the release date.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick Talks GTA 6
In a talk with CNBC’s Money Movers discussing the performance of Take-Two Interactive and its subsidiaries, like Rockstar Games, Zelnick offered some reassurance regarding the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6. Near the end of the chat, the prior delays leading to the current release date for GTA 6 of May 26, 2026 was brought up, and Zelnick was asked what his level of conviction was around this release date. He said “my level of conviction is very, very high, obviously,” which the interviewer interpreted as “so that’s going to happen.”
Obviously, another delay is likely one of the last things that Take-Two Interactive would want to happen. While GTA 6 is likely to break sales records for gaming regardless of when it launches, further delays would likely frustrate the fandom considerably, and potentially lead investors to worry, which could hurt Take-Two’s bottom line.
However, there are also extremely high expectations of the game, and Take-Two won’t want to deliver a title that can’t live up to what fans want. Considering that Grand Theft Auto 6‘s price may very well set a new, higher pricing metric for the game industry in general, it has even more to live up to. With that said, it’s not entirely out of the question for a future delay, but as Zelnick felt comfortable going on-record with this comment, it seems unlikely for GTA 6‘s release date to be pushed back again.
