With any crafting game, there’s always going to be that one mineable gem that’s worth an absolute fortune. In Prospecting, one of the most desired is the Fire Opal, a late-game mineral that’s worth millions of dollars and can be used to make high level equipment.
This Roblox experience is certainly taking the world by storm. With a wholly unique gameplay loop of digging and scooping sand, before washing it away in a river current to find gems, many are tipping it to be one of the best Roblox games you can play. However, there is a lot of grinding to do before you reach Fire Opal, so here’s when you can get it in Prospecting.

How to obtain Fire Opal in Prospecting
This gem, worth a whopping $1.6 million per kilogram in-game, is found in the Infernal Heart, Volcanic Sands, and The Magma Furnace areas. However, despite appearing in three different regions, the chances of actually finding it are incredibly low. It will probably take you hundreds, if not thousands of attempts before you even find one of these rare minerals.
These low odds make the Flame Priest quest, which requires you to find and give one Fire Opal to them, rather luck-based. However, the reward the priest gives is worth the effort as you’ll be granted protection against the heat of the volcano, making further endeavors in these scorching hot areas much more bearable.
How to get to the Volcanic Sands
With such low chances of finding the Fire Opal, no matter which area you explore, we recommend you try to find it in the Volcanic Sands. To get there, you’ll need to unlock the Ferryman at the Fortune River, the second main location, who will take you to Caldera Island. Volcanic Sands is one of the areas on this island. Complete the Lighthouse quest to progress the story, and eventually you’ll earn safe passage across the sea.
This is the recommended place to find the Fire Opal because the toughness requirement is one lower than the other regions and you only need the Meteoric Shovel as opposed to the Divine Shovel in the other two areas. You could try drinking a Luck Potion sold by the nearby alchemist for $1 million, but that’s the only other way to try and manipulate the odds.

How to get the Meteoric Shovel
The Meteoric Shovel costs $4 million, and you can buy it in the Town Store. Aside from the Toughness rating of 4, its Dig Strength is 7 and it has a Dig Speed of 1.5.
As for how good it is, it’s an acceptable mid-game shovel. You don’t really need the Diamond Shovel that comes after this one if you nearly have the money to buy either a Divine, Earthbreaker, or Dragonflame Shovel, but you’ll want to upgrade the Meteoric Shovel to one of these three eventually as the later regions require a shovel Toughness rating of at least five.
Prospecting Fire Opal crafting recipes
At the time of writing, there are only a couple of recipes that require the Fire Opal. However, there is a good chance that a future update will add more to the list. There is also a high likelihood that new regions will offer Fire Opals at better odds, while introducing minerals to become the new rare finds, so we’ll update this guide to reflect any future updates.
