Upcoming Horror Games To Get You Back Into The Genre

Horror is one of the most popular video game genres on the planet, and with so many games to play and so much content coming out all at once, it is easy to understand why some players can get burnt out and feel as though things are too saturated or not unique enough for their tastes.

But, in the coming weeks and months, horror fans are going to be treated to a range of exciting new games, some from iconic franchises and some brand new. There’s realism, cartoony scares, and everything in between, giving players plenty of opportunities to recapture their love of horror.

    8

    A.I.L.A

Step Into A Horrifying Virtual World

A.I.L.A is a trippy and mind-bending horror experience that places the player as a VR game tester, venturing into artificial realities of all kinds. The game takes heavy influence from classics like P.T. and leans into psychological horror in a big way, testing players’ will to survive more than anything.

The demo alone gives players more than enough of a taste to want more, forcing them through a looping set of corridors that contain plenty of scares and paranormal occurrences to keep them checking over their shoulder. It’s shaping up to be a real hit in the genre and one that players should definitely keep an eye on.

    7

    Silent Hill f

Something New From A Classic Franchise

Silent Hill f is the first new entry in the franchise for many years, and it looks to be taking the series in a completely different direction. Set in a foggy Japanese town, the game embraces mythology and tradition in a big way, both for the settings and monsters within it.

The game may have some combat elements to it, but they will be much more complementary to the narrative rather than the main focus. It looks to be equal parts beautiful and terrifying and marks a long-awaited return to a series that practically pioneered the entire horror genre.

    6

    Cronos: The New Dawn

    A Brand New Dystopian Apocalypse

Set in a brutal future wasteland, from the outside, Cronos looks to be yet another attempt at dethroning Dead Space as the king of sci-fi horror, but the game has so much more to offer with its twisting worlds and more abstract presentation of the environment that sets it apart from the rest.

Aside from the setting and aesthetics, the game also includes some unique mechanics related to enemies and combat, like merging. Rather than taking the traditional survival horror approach, Cronos seeks a more strategic route where players truly need to think about every engagement, or risk losing their lives.

    5

    Resident Evil Requiem

    Return To Raccoon City

RE9 is real and coming very soon to the gaming world, allowing players to once again experience the premier survival horror franchise with a new lick of paint. The story focuses on Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst looking for resolution surrounding her mother’s mysterious death, who journeys to an abandoned hotel in search of answers.

What makes the game so exciting is not only a return to Raccoon City after so many years, but Capcom’s decision to move the franchise in a completely new direction. The story remains connected, but looks to push forward elsewhere, whilst still keeping diehard fans pleased with plenty of references and narrative beats that tie the characters to the past.

    4

    Bad Cheese

Old School Animation Meets Gruesome Body Horror

    • Release Date: Sep. 1, 2025

Bad Cheese is a unique survival horror game that sends players back to the 1920s for a black and white filtered narrative that is guaranteed to cause more than a few nightmares. The game combines the charm of classic cartoons with grotesque horror in a marriage that is unexpectedly perfect in so many ways.

The first-person perspective lends it an added level of intimacy, as players stroll through the halls as a small, defenseless child eager to please their father. With such a distinctive art style, horror fans should keep Bad Cheese on their radar and consider picking it up, assuming they have the stomach for it.

    3

    No, I’m Not A Human

Home Invaders Of A Different Kind

No, I’m Not A Human is a simplistic horror game set in a single house during a strange invasion event where Visitors are eager to get inside and do God knows what to the player, assuming they get the chance to do so.

The gameplay loop revolves around letting people in or choosing to kick them out, all the while checking to see whether they are human or not. It’s a game of risk at all times, as one wrong choice could result in a house of murder rather than a house of safety for all.

    2

    Little Nightmares 3

Taking On A Monumental Adventure Together

Little Nightmares 3 keeps the bite-sized horror franchise going, only this time with a co-op twist that adds in a whole new dimension for both puzzles and the chances of death at the hands of giants and creatures of all kinds.

The next installment has plenty of new locations to see and journey across, whilst maintaining all the charm of the original with its dark atmosphere and suffocating environments. For players who love to be scared together, this is the perfect game to try out around the Halloween season.

    1

    ILL

Dismemberment And Brutality Unlike Anything Else

ILL is brutal, disgusting, unsettling, and everything in between in the best way possible. A dark fort full of intelligent and dynamic enemies eager to get their hands on the player, the game looks remarkably horrifying and stands out for its innovative enemy designs and focus on realism over novelty.

There’s shooting, resource management, and unguided exploration, all elements of classic survival horror, only this time the enemies are smarter and the environments feel even more oppressive than before, resulting in a uniquely terrifying entry in the genre with plenty of terrors hiding inside.
