WARNING: The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the main story of Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail up to Patch 7.3.Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida stated that the story of Dawntrail’s remaining major content updates, Patches 7.4 and 7.5, will continue to explore facets of Solution Nine and the Ninth Reflection. Yoshida also stated that, while Dawntrail had Final Fantasy 14 players explore Tural and Alexandria in tandem, the story of the former is wrapped up following the events of Patch 7.3.
Following the Rite of Succession story arc in the first half of Dawntrail, the expansion’s latter half and subsequent updates honed in on the sudden appearance of the technologically-advanced nation of Alexandria, a kingdom from the Ninth Reflection and a reference to the Final Fantasy 9 kingdom of the same name. During Patch 7.3, the Warrior of Light and their allies foiled a plot by the Endless scientist Calyx, who called forth the Primal entity known as Necron, named and modeled after Final Fantasy 9‘s surprise final boss. Though Calyx escaped, it was revealed that he was in league with the Ascians, a recurring foe of the Warrior of Light.
Dawntrail’s Main Story Will Tie Up Loose Ends in the Ninth Reflection
Given the reveal of the Ascians’ imminent return to the main story following Patch 7.3, Yoshida stated that players are not done with exploring Alexandria. In an interview at Gamescom with Feed4Gamers, Yoshida confirmed that Patches 7.4 and 7.5 will still take place in areas associated with the Ninth Reflection, but did not elaborate further due to story spoilers. Yoshida said, “In patch 7.4 the progression of the story will not be so fast, but you will see a faster acceleration in patch 7.5. And for Patch 7.5 the plot has already been finished and we have started the voice recording, the voice acting, and it will be different to Dawntrail.”
Yoshida added that Final Fantasy 14‘s 7.4 content update will also include the last part of the Arcadion raid series, along with a new Variant Dungeon that will see some changes from past iterations based on player feedback. Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.4 is scheduled to launch in the winter, with Patch 7.5 arriving during the spring of 2026, based on the game’s current patch cadence. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14‘s Patch 7.5 content update will see the addition of the Beastmaster Limited Job and the next Ultimate Raid.
However, further details about Dawntrail’s remaining features were not revealed. But, between Final Fantasy 14‘s 12th anniversary event and the upcoming collaboration with Monster Hunter Wilds, fans will have plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead.
