Where to Find the Secret Entrance to the Tomb in Peak
The secret entrance is located in the Mesa biome in Peak. This never changes, so don’t worry about missing it in other areas. Accessing the secret entrance leads to the Tomb, which is a hidden location with one special item at the very end.
When you step into Mesa, the secret entrance is generally somewhere along the first half of the biome. That is, the plain grounds before you get into the massive gap on the floor that forces you to descend and then climb back up, which takes you to the proper climbing section toward the summit, right before Caldera.
In order to enter the secret entrance, you first need to find a hole in the ground. Don’t be confused by the sand pits–if you find a hole that seems to be platforms underneath, that’s the one. The location is always randomized.
That being said, if you wait until nighttime in-game, you’ll see a trace of “smoke” coming out of it, which serves as a helpful beacon.
Grab onto the walls to start descending and use the aforementioned platforms to carefully make it to the Tomb. There, make sure to grab a torch and start making your way inside.
It’s a fairly straightforward path from here, although you can expect a few long maze-like corridors and one section where you’ll need to use either stamina regen items or some tools to get across. Whether or not the secret entrance is actually open, however, is where it gets tricky.
When is the Secret Entrance in Peak Open?
For starters, remember that Peak’s map changes every 24 hours. As of patch 1.27.a, which went live on August 27, the current rotation makes it so Alpine and Mesa now alternate every other day. In short, if you jump into the game and you get Alpine as the third biome, you’ll have to wait until the next day.
Moreover, introduced in the same patch, the secret entrance is now open 50 percent of the time instead of 25 percent. That means that maps will have Mesa every other day, but the secret entrance will be open half of the time.
Don’t fret, though, as you can still make your way into the tomb even if the secret entrance appears to be closed. When this happens, you’re likely to see the first corridor covered in rocks. There’s a glitch of sorts here–for me, it went like this: I had the backpack equipped, as well as a few items in my hands. I walked toward the rocks and jumped onto the small gap on the upper left side. It’s not big enough to crouch your way through, but once I was there, I just switched from my torch to the big lollipop, and my character made it through on their own.
Other users have reported that the trick is similar to the cannon glitch, where you must take off your backpack so your character can clip through. I was lucky, but it might take you a few more tries on your end. Alternatively, you can hold on until the next time Mesa is available to see if the entrance is open.
