This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Finale.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga reached its peak with the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, where fans witnessed some of the biggest fights unfolding, and at the same time, an incredible end. The series concluded with Yuji Itadori going all out against the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, in what could be described as one of the greatest battles in modern shonen.
At the end of it all, Sukuna ended up losing to Yuji and the latter was successfully able to save Megumi Fushiguro, much to the delight of the readers. That said, things could’ve gotten very differently for both Yuji and Megumi had Gege given the fans his alternate ending. In this version of the ending, Nobara and Gojo would’ve died, and at the same time, one of Yuji and Megumi would’ve fallen as well, making the ending incredibly sad.
Gege Akutami Had An Alternate Ending For Jujutsu Kaisen
Only One Main Character Would’ve Survived The Alternate Ending
- Nobara Would’ve Stayed Dead
- Yuji Could’ve Died
Long ago, Gege Akutami made his alternate ending for the series known to the fans. According to Gege Akutami, he had two scenarios planned for the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen. The first one saw one of the four main characters, those being Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and Gojo, die. As fans know, this is the ending that he went with. Yuji Itadori was able to save Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara was also brought back around the end to aid in the battle against Ryomen Sukuna. With all three students surviving, Gojo Satoru was the only one who fell in battle and died.
Haven’t we had enough of Gojo Satoru already? — Gojo
Gege’s alternate Jujutsu Kaisen ending, however, was much more shocking. In it, Gege had planned for only one of the four main characters to survive. This means that Nobara, who fell in Shibuya, would’ve stayed dead in this particular scenario. At the same time, Gojo Satoru would’ve also stayed dead, which is something that fans know already. But, most of all, one of Yuji and Megumi would’ve died.
Given that Yuji Itadori was the one trying to rescue Megumi, it is highly likely that Yuji would’ve been the one to die, while Megumi Fushiguro would’ve survived the series as the sole main character left behind.

Gege Akutami Stuck To His Original Ending Idea For Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji Managed To Save Megumi
Thankfully for the fans, Gege Akutami didn’t go down the painful route and decided to keep the main trio of the story alive. Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara all managed to survive and lived great lives after the fall of Sukuna. Unfortunately, Gojo Satoru was never brought back and he remained dead, which is something that many fans of the story didn’t like. At the end of the day, someone had to take the fall in the Shinjuku Showdown battle, and it ended up being Gojo. Still, it is worth noting that Gojo lost due to plot reasons and that Gege had to severely nerf him to make Sukuna win the battle. In a truly fair battle, the result would’ve been different.
Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the biggest shonen series in the world. The manga, which ended in late 2024, can be read online for free. It is available to access on Manga Plus, where this series used to be made available weekly.
