Summary
- Goku and Vegeta now possess character-specific divine techniques: Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego respectively.
- Despite their strength, Goku and Vegeta still struggle to measure up to Beerus.
- A fusion between Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta might be their only chance against Beerus.
At the start of Dragon Ball Super, fans were uncharacteristically introduced to the strongest foe that the heroes would ever face, even when compared to the subsequent villains who popped up later in the series. Beerus was an absolute powerhouse who proved to be far greater than anything Goku or Vegeta were capable of competing with at the time but, fortunately, he ended up becoming an ally to the Z-Fighters.
At the current stage, the heroes are far stronger than they have ever been before. With the introduction of character-specific transformations, the main heroes of Dragon Ball have come to a relative level of strength as one another, which makes them the greatest warriors in the multiverse. However, is this enough for Goku and Vegeta to finally stand a chance against Beerus?

Although the subsequent arcs of Dragon Ball Super were the ones to give the official name to Ultra Instinct, the technique itself was teased in the very first episode of the new series, when Goku’s body refused to attack Beerus on its own. This showed the true power of Ultra Instinct, which is to have the body avoid danger automatically so that the user can focus completely on their offense, something which Goku has come to master in his Perfected Ultra Instinct form.
Conversely, the mirror to this is Ultra Ego, which is the respective Divine Technique used by the Destroyer Gods instead of the Angels. In place of avoiding damage, this technique prioritizes taking it so that the body essentially charges up in order to make the user’s next attack even more powerful. Although he has yet to master it, Vegeta has finally awoken his most powerful state by using Ultra Ego, which was on full display in his battle against Granolah.
A God of Destruction taught me that power derived solely from instinct is unbounded!
So, seeing how strong Goku and Vegeta have gotten over the course of Super to reach their strongest states with the Divine Techniques, how would they fare against Beerus? Unfortunately, Beerus is a moving goal post for the series who acts as much as a narrative device as a character, since he is essentially a yardstick that Goku and Vegeta use to measure their strength by. Many times, they have come close to what was believed to be Beerus’ true strength, only to find out that there is much more that he is hiding.
This was revealed in the manga, where, even after the Granolah arc with Goku and Vegeta being the strongest that they have ever been, Beerus commented that he will only nominate them as the next Destroyer Gods once they reach a similar level to him. Although Goku said that this isn’t something that he wants, it’s clear to see that there’s still a long way for him to go.
Fans haven’t seen Beerus using anything close to his true power yet since he has never been driven to do so. The first time he was seen in battle was against Super Saiyan God Goku during the Battle of Gods film, but that was less than a fraction of his strength. However, something close was seen in the Destroyer exhibition match, where every God of Destruction fought against one another to test out the stage for the Tournament of Power.
Here, Beerus was shown to use Ultra Instinct Omen, which adds to his awesome strength even more. Although the fight was largely off-screen, he was the only Destroyer left standing alongside Quietela, which automatically puts him as one of the two strongest Gods of Destruction in the multiverse. His incredible strength, combined with his mastery of Ultra Ego and ability to use Ultra Instinct Omen, makes him the closest thing to the perfect fighter that Dragon Ball has ever seen. At the current stage, Goku and Vegeta don’t stand a chance.

Fusion Is The Ultimate Power Up
- Vegito and Gogeta are the only ones who may be able to come close to Beerus’ power.
Both of the fusions that Goku and Vegeta have been shown to use throughout the series are the greatest mortal combatants in history. In Dragon Ball Super, they have only gotten stronger with the ability to turn into Super Saiyan Blue, although most fans agree that, even then, they wouldn’t be able to surpass Beerus. Still, they would definitely give him an amazing fight.
However, now that Goku and Vegeta are at their strongest with their Divine Techniques, it opens up an avenue for the greatest warrior in the series; one which will be born from the fusion of Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. If this happens, either Vegito or Gogeta will be formed with the ability to use both Divine Techniques at once, which, coupled with their incredible power besides the fact, would perhaps pave the way for them to be strong enough to finally defeat Beerus.
