RPGs That Have Better Graphics Than Gameplay

Role-playing games need to wow players with a combination of visuals and gameplay. However, in the bid to make the former look as advanced as possible, there are some titles where the gameplay may not be as scintillating.

8 Best RPGs Where You Start Powerful

These RPGs don’t start players from scratch. Their protagonists kick off each campaign with an abundance of powerful abilities.

If fans don’t mind dealing with weird or uninspired combat, then the following titles will be right up their alley. The visual design of these games is amazing and goes a long way in keeping fans engaged for the long haul.

The games below have been chosen based on how their visuals outshine their gameplay. Even if the gameplay is incredible, the graphics are more notable.

    8

    Final Fantasy 13

Looks Gorgeous To This Day, Despite The Gameplay Being More Of A Mixed Bag

The fact that Final Fantasy 13 still looks jaw-dropping to this day proves just how strong the game’s visual design is. It’s just a shame that the gameplay may not reach the same heights.

A focus on linear exploration, on-the-rails combat, and a story that is a little too long to get going can be hard to digest for fans. However, if the visuals strike a tone with fans (which it just might), then gazing at Final Fantasy 13‘s gorgeous environments is enough to keep fans engaged for the long haul.

    God Of War Ragnarok

The Graphics Are Incredible, And So Is The Combat

God of War Ragnarok is one of the best video games ever made, with state-of-the-art graphics. As engaging as the combat is, it’s nowhere near as groundbreaking as the tech that went into making the game look jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

The scope of Ragnarok‘s adventures led to some of the most visually stimulating set pieces in the series. Everything from simple exploration to tense boss fights reaches a whole new level courtesy of the graphical side of things doing most of the heavy lifting to enhance a player’s immersion.

    6

    The Outer Worlds

The Visual Design Of The World Is Gorgeous, Even If The Combat System Is Rather Basic

The Outer Worlds boasts an excellent art style that gives the entire title a relentless charm. Role-playing may be somewhat disappointing, and the combat is fairly basic, but the retro-future aesthetic and excellent use of color more than make up for these issues.

8 Best RPGs With No Leveling Up, Ranked

Some may consider leveling up as integral to an RPG, but as these games prove, RPGs can still thrive even without a leveling-up system.

Players will love exploring the various planets in this game to witness the beauty of the universe for themselves. This intergalactic adventure is great and allows players to witness unique landscapes in their quest to free the Hope colonists while dealing with several factions and players.

    5

    Baldur’s Gate 3

The Gameplay Is Tactical, But The Graphics Are What Drew Players To Check This Game Out

Many fans expected Baldur’s Gate 3 to feature an evolution of the tactical turn-based combat seen in previous Larian Studios’ games that would fit within the D&D ruleset. However, what they didn’t expect was for the developer to go all in on the visuals.

Despite being a top-down CRPG at heart, Baldur’s Gate 3 features some of the best visuals one can enjoy in a role-playing game. It’s so stunning that fans struggling with the combat will still power through just because of the game’s excellent graphics.

    4

    Demon’s Souls

Bluepoint Games Did A Great Job Of Updating The Visuals In The Remake

Demon’s Souls is a video game that fans wanted to check out for the longest time after Dark Souls exploded in popularity. Courtesy of Bluepoint Games, fans could finally get their hands on a remake of this game, where the visuals are in a class of their own.

The amazing texture work and improved lighting help the Demon’s Souls remake stand out as the best-looking FromSoftware game in the eyes of many. The combat is largely unchanged, but it never needed any tweaks since that was never the biggest barrier to entry for an action RPG that set the foundation for something special.

The Gameplay Is The Same, But The Visuals Are Entirely Redone

Oblivion is an extremely important RPG that changed the industry going forward, and Bethesda’s shadow-dropping remaster of this title was incredible to behold. Fans were treated to the best-looking version of Cyrodil that let them journey to become the Hero of Kvatch all over again.

Oblivion is a highly influential game; here is a list of RPGs that incorporate many of its mechanics and structure.

The gameplay is largely identical to the original title with a few minor tweaks. Fans don’t mind the combat being slightly dated, especially since the work Virtuos has done to revitalize the game’s visuals is in a class of its own.

    2

    Dragon Age: Inquisition

The Visuals Look Great Even After 11 Years

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a game that was way better than fans expected, with its story and visuals being pretty engaging. The combat could take some getting used to, but it also had its draws.

Players loved how beautiful the game looked, with combat being more cinematic than it had any right to be courtesy of the excellent visual design. It helped convey the magic of a fantasy world while also making sure that the dark undertones of Dragon Age‘s world were highlighted, something that fans felt was missing from The Veilguard.

    1

    Black Myth: Wukong

As Scintillating As The Combat Is, The Graphics Are The Real Winner Here

While Black Myth: Wukong‘s excellent action gameplay is one of its biggest strengths, it’s the visuals that keep fans engaged for the long haul. This can be seen from the very opening, which is dripping in style and leaves players spellbound by the amazing graphics on display.

The combat is excellent, although it may not be as notable as its visuals. The bosses in this game are the crowning jewel, with each encounter using strong visual design and a tough challenge level to leave players on the edge of their seats as they struggle to survive against their foe’s might.
