Atari 7800+ Is Only $60 For Prime Day, Includes New Cartridge Game

Retro gaming enthusiasts can save over 50% on the Atari 7800+ console during Prime Day. Released last November for $130, the cartridge-based console is discounted to just $60 at Amazon. This is an incredible deal, as the console comes with a wireless gamepad that’s sold separately for $35 and a new Atari game that goes for $30 on its own. You could use some of the money you’re saving toward the CX40+ Wireless Joystick, which is discounted to $28 and can be synced to your PC, too.

Amazon also has a deal on the Atari 2600+ that drops the price to $90 (was $130). Both of these modern recreations of classic hardware play Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges, so if you don’t have a preference on the look of the console, the 7800+ is clearly the better option at the moment.

    $60 (was $130) | Prime Day Deal

Atari built the 7800+ as a modernized and compact version of the iconic retro console. It connects to your TV via HDMI, plays Atari 7800 and 2600 cartridges, and works with original carts and modern releases like the pack-in game Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest. It’s a sequel to the Crystal Castles, the classic 1983 arcade game. Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest is a great side-scrolling platformer that sells for $30 on its own.

The 7800+ comes with a modernized, wireless version of the CX78 Gamepad. It has two face buttons and a removable stick that slots in the center of the D-pad, allowing you to choose your preferred movement method. It charges via USB-C and can run for up to 25 hours on a full charge. Extra CX78+ Wireless Gamepads are sold separately for $35, but unfortunately Amazon is sold out.

If you own an Atari 2600+ and have been eyeing the CX78+ and Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest, you’d spend five bucks more buying those two separately than you would on the 7800+ console.

    $90 (was $130)

The Atari 2600+ launched in 2023 for $130. Outside of limited-time sales such as Prime Day, it has maintained its price.

Since both consoles play the same games–they are essentially identical from a internal tech perspective–you’re paying an extra 30 bucks for the aesthetics. Admittedly, the 2600 with its woodgrain front panel is an iconic look.

The 2600+ comes with a wired CX40 Joystick and a 10 Games in 1 multicart with the following titles:

    • Adventure
    • Combat
    • Dodge ‘Em
    • Haunted House
    • Maze Craze
    • Missle Command
    • RealSports Volleyball
    • Surround.
    • VIdeo Pinball
    • Yars’ Revenge

    $28 (was $35) | Prime Day Deal

As mentioned, the CX40+ Wireless Joystick is available separately for $28 (was $35). The CX40+ works wirelessly on the 7800+ and 2600+ as well as on PC with the included USB-C dongle.

Atari released the CX40+ alongside the 7800+ console last holiday. If you own the 2600+ and want to upgrade to a wireless controller, now’s a great time to buy one.

    $30 each

If you don’t have any old Atari cartridges in a storage bin somewhere, there’s a growing collection of newly manufactured 2600 and 7800 cartridges for $30 each. The lineup features reprints of classic titles like Ninja Golf 7800, new releases like the superb platformer Mr. Run and Jump 2600, and even a few enhanced editions of beloved games from Atari’s heyday such as Asteroids Deluxe 7800. Originally a fan-made homebrew before getting an official release, Asteroids Deluxe has new gameplay features and overhauled visuals.

Check out the list of 2600 and 7800 cartridges on Amazon below, including four upcoming cartridges that you can preorder ahead of their August 15 release.

Retro gamers should also check out Amazon’s deals on the mClassic Graphics Upscalers, which improve picture resolution and clarity when using older gaming hardware on modern TVs. The mClassic can also make a noticeable difference with the Nintendo Switch (not the Switch 2).
