Snag A Last-Minute Prime Day Deal On The Borderlands Movie

Prime Day is one of the best events of the year for cinephiles thanks to the heaps of Blu-rays on sale, but with the event ending today, you’ll need to act fast if you’re stocking your movie shelf with new releases. While there are a lot of critically acclaimed movies to choose from, there’s also one that is a bit of a hard sell: Borderlands. Right now, Amazon is offering a pretty good deal on the Limited Edition steelbook case and the regular 4K version. Both of these editions come with the film on a standard Blu-ray disc and a digital streaming code. The live-action adaptation of the hit looter-shooter video game series wasn’t exactly on par with recent efforts like HBO’s The Last of Us or The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but if you’re brave enough, you can buy the film for yourself to see what all the fuss was about. If you dare.

    $28.49 (was $35)

The Borderlands movie makes several changes to the lore and characters of the games, and it’s set on the dangerous alien planet of Pandora. Featuring a mostly miscast roster of actors, the movie revolves around the bounty hunter Lilith (Cate Blanchett) and her mission to find the missing daughter of Atlas, CEO of one of the largest companies in the galaxy.

When things go south, Lilith forms an unlikely alliance with Roland (Kevin Hart), Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), Patricia Tannis (Jaime Lee Curtis), and Krieg (Florian Munteanu) to find answers and a lucrative payday.

Admittedly, Borderlands is not a great movie. It’s also not that bad as it’s an average popcorn flick to watch if you feel like turning your brain off. Visually, it’s colorful, there are numerous Easter eggs to spot, and it comes with the following bonus materials:

    • Borderlands: From Game to Screen featurette
    • Meet the Team featurette
    • All Aboard the Death Choochoo featurette
    • Bringing Borderlands to the Screen featurette
    • Badonkadonk Time featurette
    • Fashion and Action on Pandora featurette
    • High Tech Hellscapes featurette

    $22.49 (was $27)

In case the steelbook edition sells out, the regular 4K version is also available for purchase.

The best thing about the Borderlands movie is that it makes other video game adaptations much better just by comparison. Several of these surprisingly and suddenly improved films are also on sale for Prime Day, including Doom. The early 2000s take on the classic FPS series arrived too late after the initial heyday of the franchise and too soon for the current incarnation featuring the Doom Slayer, but you’re still getting a great action movie with a reliable cast–a Rock-solid roster you might say. This is the recent 4K release that restores a lot of the gore that was left on the cutting room floor of the theatrical release and it’s packed with extras.

On the animated side, the Final Fantasy 7 sequel Advent Children is still an exciting return to Midgar, and one that has been enhanced with new content and adjustments to create the ultimate version of the ambitious film. Five Nights at Freddy’s was also a surprise hit when it was first released, and for a prime example of how to properly adapt a video game, you just can’t beat the groundbreaking work of the Arcane animated series.
