In Hollow Knight, the Hunter’s Journal could be acquired very early in the game, just a few minutes after entering Greenpath. The Hunter’s Journal returns in Silksong, but players will have to wait a much longer time to start taking notes on defeated enemies.
In fact, you won’t be able to get the Hunter’s Journal in Silksong until you reach Greymoor. Follow this guide to learn how the Hunter’s Journal has changed from its original form in Hollow Knight, and learn where the Hunter’s Journal is in Silksong.
What Is the Hunter’s Journal?
In Silksong, the Hunter’s Journal essentially serves as a bestiary for the game. When you kill an enemy, a basic description and image of that enemy will be added to the newly-unlocked Hunter’s Journal tab in the menu.
Every Hunter’s Journal enemy in Silksong has two sets of notes: one unlocks when you kill an enemy for the first time, and one unlocks after killing a certain number of that enemy. While the first set of notes is a general overview of that enemy, the second set of notes reveals deeper lore from Hornet’s perspective.
When you acquire the Hunter’s Journal, you will also pick up the Bugs of Pharloom quest. This quest simply requires players to fill out the Hunter’s Journal with 100 entries, which will take a short while to complete as you explore new areas and defeat new enemies.
How to Get the Hunter’s Journal in Silksong
To unlock the Hunter’s Journal, Silksong players must reach the Greymoor zone after acquiring the Drifter’s Cloak from the Seamstress. Upon entering the area, head left until you reach a large locked building. Go around to the left side of the building to find the entrance to the Halfway Home.
Here, you will find the innkeeper Creige, a bench to rest on, and in the attic above, Nuu. This snail is a bit of an odd character, seen in the Silksong release trailer trying to kiss Hornet, followed by a swift slap to the face from the Pale King’s favorite princess.
After introducing herself, Hornet is asked by Nuu to “seek Pharloom’s fabulous bugs and cut them.” Nuu then gives Hornet the Hunter’s Journal, permanently unlocking the Hunter’s Journal tab in the menu.
Upon acquisition, the Hunter’s Journal will automatically update with every enemy you have killed so far, including kill counts required to unlock expanded notes.
