Epic Has Taken Legal Action Against More Fortnite Cheaters

Epic Games has officially taken legal action against gamers who cheated while playing Fortnite. This is just the latest of a number of actions that the company has taken in an attempt to prevent cheating in the game. This latest litigation from Epic Games falls right in line with previous punishments for cheating in Fortnite, which included lifetime bans, apology videos, and even lawsuits.

The last time Epic Games took this kind of action was in early 2025 when a Fortnite cheater was forced to post an apology video and donate any money won during the Fortnite Championship Series to charity. Considering that this game is already well-respected for its anti-cheat software, the fact that Epic takes the extra step to force cheaters to face real consequences for breaking the rules is undoubtedly comforting for many fans of the franchise.

Fortnite Player Must Pay Huge Fine for Cheating

A Fortnite player, who was taken to court by Epic Games last year for cheating, receives a hefty fine and a permanent ban from the battle royale.

According to a July 14 post from the Epic Games Newsroom on Twitter, legal action has been taken against two players who broke the rules. One player used and sold cheats, while the other carried out DDoS attacks against streamers to try and gain an advantage. Each player has been given a lifetime Fortnite ban in addition to the lawsuit, and both have been forced to provide an apology video. One would think that a regular practice of suing Fortnite cheaters would keep players from testing Epic Games, but it seems even the company’s best preventative efforts haven’t stopped people from making foolish decisions just yet.

Fortnite Cheaters Publish Apology Videos After Epic Games Takes Legal Action

Late in 2024, a study of anti-cheat initiatives found Fortnite was one of the better games at preventing cheaters from prospering. While some might think legal action is a bit much, it’s important to understand that there’s an entire cottage industry built around cheating in popular battle royale shooters like Fortnite. If no action is taken at all, the cheaters could negatively impact the experience of other Epic Games customers and sour them on the company altogether.

Epic Games clearly wants to keep its most popular title challenging, as the decision was recently made to reduce the number of bots Fortnite players encounter in battle royale mode from 75 to 65 per match. While there’s no guaranteed method for preventing cheating in popular titles like this, it seems that taking regular legal action against particularly troublesome cheaters is just one part of a multipronged approach that the developers take to keep Fortnite fresh and enjoyable.
