Excluding the one that players encounter during the tutorial section, Peekabruiser is the first proper boss fight in Donkey Kong Bananza. It uses those annoying little octopus enemies that can be found throughout the Lagoon Layer as both armor and weapons, which can make beating it a little frustrating for those who aren’t quite sure what they’re supposed to be doing.

Thankfully, there are a few different techniques that players can use to beat Peekabruiser, from utilizing their recently acquired Kong Bananza transformation to hurling pieces of the scenery at it from a safe distance. There are also plenty of healing items scattered around the nearby area, which can make it easier for Donkey Kong Bananza players to survive the encounter.
How to Beat Peekabruiser in DK Bananza
Before players can damage Peekabruiser, they’ll first need to remove its octopus armor. To accomplish this, they can either get in close and punch it or use ZR to tear off and then hurl pieces of the terrain at the boss from a distance. For those who opt for the former approach, it’s a good idea to activate DK’s Kong Bananza transformation by holding L + R, as they’ll be able to deal a lot more damage while in their transformed state.
During this first phase, players will need to watch out for Peekabruiser’s charge attacks (dodge left or right) and be sure to shake off any of the little octopus enemies that latch onto DK (perform any attack) before they have a chance to dish out any damage. If they do end up losing health, players should look for glowing spots on the ground and use the B button to punch down and dig up apples. They can also get more gold this way to charge or sustain their transformation.
Once Peekabruiser’s health gets low, a small hill will rise out of the ground beneath it, and it will begin to summon more octopuses to replenish its armor. When this happens, players will need to quickly climb the hill and start punching it to finish it off. If they’re too slow, they’ll need to repeat the previous phase until they’re able to get there fast enough, so players should be ready to climb the hill as quickly as possible.
When attempting to climb the hill, players should avoid the army of octopuses, as these will slow them down dramatically. Jumping over to the hill can help here, as too can climbing a part of the hill that doesn’t have octopuses on it.
Rewards for Beating Peekabruiser
Defeating Peekabruiser will reveal a bunch of Banandium Gems and open up a crater that leads down to the next layer. Players will also be able to learn all about Donkey Kong Bananza‘s fast travel system at this point by speaking with the blue eel around the outer edge of the aforementioned crater.
