The Boy And The Heron 4K Steelbook Edition Is Cheap At Amazon

Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning animated film The Boy and the Heron is available for one of its lowest prices yet at Amazon and Walmart. The 4K Blu-ray Steelbook Edition is discounted to just $26, which is the best price we’ve seen since it reached an all-time low of $25 in March.

The 4K Steelbook Edition of The Boy and the Heron is actually cheaper than the standard 4K edition ($30.73) and only a few bucks more than the 1080p Blu-ray ($23) at the moment. While you’re picking up The Boy and the Heron, check out the newly released Grave of the Fireflies Steelbook Edition. The steelbook case design for the 1989 Ghibli film about World War II–it’s rated PG-13–matches the style of The Boy and the Heron’s cover art.

    $26 (was $45)

The Boy and the Heron became the second Hayao Miyazaki-directed Ghibli film to win the the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It’s widely considered to be one of the storied animation studio’s best films, joining classics such My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, and Spirited Away–the other Ghibli film that took home the Academy Award.

The steelbook matches the aesthetics of previous Studio Ghibli limited-edition releases, but it’s the first 4K Blu-ray from the beloved studio. It’s actually the second Hayao Miyazaki film to receive a 4K release, as The Castle of Cagliostro, Miyazaki’s directorial debut, released on 4K a few years back. It’s a great animated comedy, but it initially released in 1979, years before the formation of Studio Ghibli.

All three versions of The Boy and the Heron include the following bonus features:

    • Feature-Length Storyboards
    • Interview with Composer Joe Hisaishi
    • Interview with Producer Toshio Suzuki
    • Interview with Supervising Animator Takeshi Honda
    • Drawing with Takeshi Honda
    • “Spinning Globe” Music Video
    • Teasers and Trailers

If you want to add more Studio Ghibli films to your collection, you’ll find plenty of great deals on Steelbook Editions at Amazon, including Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and more.
