While many builds in Diablo 4 use hard-hitting Core or other class-specific abilities, some can make do with just basic attacks. The Barbarian’s Bash builds are great examples of these — they’re simple and effective, and if you ever want to blow entire rooms up by bonking one enemy in the head, then this is the build for you.
The following is a Barbarian Bash build for Diablo 4 that focuses on improving the eponymous skill’s damage via endgame items and synergies. Unlike other builds, this one is very item-reliant, so it’s not very good at those early game level grinds and early Torment levels.

Diablo 4: Endgame Bash Build
As its name suggests, this build uses Bash as its primary source of damage. It’s normally a single-target skill, but with the right items, it turns into an AoE nightmare for your enemies. The build will make heavy use of Earthquakes and Berserking effects given by War Cry and Wrath of the Berserker to crank up Bash’s damage as much as possible.
Active Skills
Skill |
Notes |
---|---|
Combat Bash (5/5) |
Take the Combat Bash active to guarantee Overpower procs for Hammer of the Ancients. |
Violent Hammer of the Ancients (1/5) |
This skill is only used whenever Combat Bash’s Overpower proc is available. Using it then will amplify your damage. |
Strategic Ground Stomp (1/5) |
Apart from stunning enemies and generating Fury, it will also reduce the cooldown of Wrath of the Berserker when used. |
Power War Cry (5/5) |
Significantly increases your damage output when used. |
Tactical Challenging Shout (1/5) |
Gain damage mitigation and extra Fury when you get hit (you will get hit a lot). |
Supreme Wrath of the Berserker (5/5) |
Steroid ability that further increases DPS while providing constant Berserking for a decent duration. |
To play this build, cast Wrath of the Berserker whenever it’s off cooldown, then use your other skills liberally. Only use HotA when Combat Bash’s guaranteed Overpower proc is ready to trigger, otherwise you’re going to lose a lot of Fury.
Passives
- Warpath (3/3)
- Endless Fury (3/3)
- Belligerence (3/3)
- Booming Voice (3/3)
- Aggressive Resistance (3/3)
- Prolific Fury (3/3)
- Pit Fighter (3/3)
- No Mercy (3/3)
- Heavy Handed (3/3)
- Wallop (3/3)
- Unconstrained
These passive skills will give you much-needed damage boosts, survivability improvements, and increased Fury generation. Spend your remaining skill points on your defensive passives of choice.
Arsenal and Technique Bonus
Bind Bash to your 2H Bludgeoning weapon and equip either Polearm for increased Lucky Hit Chance (for Fury generation) or 2H Axe for extra Vulnerable damage. You can also use 2H Sword if you want to use Paragon nodes that increase your damage or grant Berserking when defeating Bleeding targets.
Gear, Legendary Aspects, and Stats
The core items for this build are Hooves of the Mountain God, Shard of Verathiel, and Legendary items with Hectic and Adaptability — if you want to do low Torment farming with this Bash build, get these ones first. The rest are there to amplify your damage and boost survivability.
Bash’s damage is greatly augmented by Hooves of the Mountain God and Shard of Verathiel — the former lets it deal damage in an area, while the latter increases the damage it deals at the cost of Fury. If possible, also consider using Paingorger’s Gauntlets to further boost Bash’s DPS.
Hooves of the Mountain God takes priority over Shard of Verathiel thanks to its cleave damage. It’ll let you use Bash more comfortably as you farm other items.
As for stats, make sure to look for the following:
- Ranks to Heavy Handed
- Ranks to Belligerence
- Chance for Bash to hit twice
- Wrath of the Berserker cooldown reduction
- Damage while Wrath of the Berserker is active
- Chance to Restore Primary Resource
- Crit stats
- Strength
- Life
- Armor
- Resistances
Runewords
Runewords augment builds by triggering certain affects after fulfilling certain conditions. For this build, we’ll be using CirTec, which enables the following interaction:
- Casting 5 Skills generates 300 Offering. This effect has a 3-second cooldown.
- After gaining 50 Offering, cast Earthquake on your position. Overflowing on Offerings increases the Earthquake’s size.
Paragon Boards and Glyphs
Paragon boards in Diablo 4 will significantly enhance your character’s performance in the late game. For this Bash build, prioritize the following:
Paragon Board |
Glyph |
---|---|
Starter |
Exploit |
Decimator |
Rumble |
Blood Rage |
Might |
Exploit will make your enemies Vulnerable for three seconds upon first damaging them, while Might improves your damage with 2H weapons. Rumble gives you more damage when fighting bosses and Crowd Controlled enemies for every active Earthquake on the field. Swap the latter out for Crusher if you want something more consistent.
Take whatever stats you need from the blue and yellow nodes on your Paragon boards. If you’re starting to die more frequently, don’t be afraid to respec and grab more survivability nodes.
