High-Grade Material Locations in Shadow Labyrinth

As you upgrade your main weapon and ESP (stamina) in Shadow Labyrinth, you’ll quickly hit a wall when you see you need to acquire High-Grade Material. This powerful crafting item is incredibly useful, but also exceedingly rare. On top of this, for much of Shadow Labyrinth’s early-to-mid-game, you’ll have no idea where to find it. In this guide, we’ll show you how to find High-Grade Material in Shadow Labyrinth, and provide you with the first two locations, which will allow you to upgrade both your sword, and your max ESP.

The Best 2D Metroidvania Games To Start With

Metroidvania games are very popular, but with so many to choose from it may be overwhelming. These are the best 2D Metroidvania games for beginners.

How to Get High-Grade Material in Shadow Labyrinth

    SL-HGM-Header

    Progress Into the Forbidden Lands:

In Shadow Labyrinth, you can upgrade your sword and ESP (stamina) at the Miku Sol save points – essentially this game’s version of the soulslike bonfire. While accessing the Miku Sol, you’ll find the upgrades under the Enhance menu. At the start, you’ll only be able to access the sword and ESP upgrades, which will only require Ora for the first three levels.

However, once you reach the level 4 upgrades in both categories, you’ll see that you need one High-Grade Material to progress. High-Grade Material will be required to perform every fourth upgrade. Unlike other crafting materials in Shadow Labyrinth, High-Grade Material is not collected from enemies. Instead, they take the form of red crystal collectibles, just like the HP Capacitor (Max Health upgrade), and the HP Tank charges. Unfortunately, this means that when you see a red crystal hidden or tucked away on the map, you won’t know what it is until you collect it. This will require a huge amount of exploration if you do not know where to look. Luckily, we can give you a head start.

To begin with, don’t expect to find any High-Grade Material until you reach the Forbidden Lands. If there are any earlier, they are blocked by obstacles that you will not be able to pass until you unlock abilities after the Forbidden Lands. You’ll reach the Forbidden Lands after passing through the first several regions, and locating the first major town at Bosconian Village in the Land of the Fugitives.

    High-Grade Material Location 1:

The first High-Grade Material we encountered was located in the Door to the Abyss region. You’ll pass through this area not directly after leaving Bosconian Village in the Land of the Fugitives, and entering the Forbidden Lands. After making your way west through the long, slender section of the map, the Door to the Abyss area will open up into a long rectangular section.

You’ll have the ACTIV Shot (Grapple) and Midair Dodge abilities unlocked at this point, which will both be required to collect the first High-Grade Material.

The first High-Grade Material is located near the eastern edge of this section. After Puck stops to mention Sheyenne GAIA, you’ll know you are just about to enter the desired region. Pass through the first chamber screen, then as you enter the second, you’ll see the red crystal collectible. You’ll need to head west on the lower path, until you reach the checkpoint seen in the above video. From the checkpoint, head back east on the upper path, then drop to the lower sections to collect the material. Be careful, as this section is packed with dangerous foes.

    High-Grade Material Location 2:

The second High-Grade Material in Shadow Labyrinth is located in the Crystalline Palace. This area is directly west of the Door to the Abyss, and is part of the normal progression in the Forbidden Lands. This region is much larger than the previous, so it may take a bit longer to reach your destination if you are returning to the area.

You’ll want to make your way along the northern edge of the region, until you reach the third chamber from the northwest corner. In this chamber you’ll find a multi-leveled area with a waterfall that falls through the middle. You’ll need to make your way to the top level of this section, then follow the correct path through the water to reach the rec crystal collectible that represents the High-Grade Material. See the map, and the video, for the exact location.

As we discover more High-Grade Material locations, we will add them here.
