The Dark Knight Trilogy’s New 4K Steelbook Library Collection Looks Stunning

Just days after revealing an exclusive Superman Steelbook Library Collection, Amazon has unveiled a similar box set for Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. Priced at $130 and releasing September 9, The Dark Knight Trilogy Steelbook Library Collection comes with the superb 4K UHD Blu-ray editions of the three movies starring Christian Bale as Batman. You’ll get a batcave’s worth of collectibles with this set, including four stylish steelbook cases and a metal library display case.

Amazon opened preorders for this exciting Batman collection on July 22, the same day it started selling the Superman Library Collection for $130. Both sets are exclusive to Amazon and are likely to sell out. Amazon released an exclusive Sean Connery James Bond Library Collection in June and has an upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street Library Collection. Both of those sold out fast, though it’s worth noting they contain movies that previously weren’t available on 4K.

    $130 | Releases September 9 | Amazon Exclusive

Each steelbook case in this collection echoes the artistic direction of The Dark Knight Trilogy, as the covers have a clean but striking image of a character within a batarang-shaped logo. Batman Begins features the Dark Knight himself, The Dark Knight has the late Heath Ledger’s Joker leering at you, and Tom Hardy’s Bane is ready to make a speech on case for The Dark Knight Rises. The fourth steelbook case is gold and features a flock of bats as silhouettes. Inside the case, you’ll find the following physical collectibles:

    • Lenticular art cards
    • City billboard art cards
    • Storyboards
    • The Bat Blueprint
    • Replica of The Gotham Times newspaper
    • Certificate of authenticity

As mentioned, all four steelbook cases are housed inside of a library case–a high-quality metal display box–featuring the Batman logo. This looks like a pretty awesome collector’s box set for big fans of The Dark Knight Trilogy.

The nine-disc collection contains three 4K discs and six 1080p Blu-ray discs–where you’ll find the bulk of the special features–as well as digital editions you can download and watch on streaming platforms.

In terms of on-disc content, this is the same collection as the existing 4K standard edition, which is discounted to $44 (was $75) at Amazon–but the standard doesn’t come with digital versions of the movies. The 4K UHD versions of these three films are superb. Rendered in native 4K (2160p) with support for HDR10 and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, the nine-disc collection should be in every Batman fan’s personal library.

Each film has a rich selection of special features. Batman Begins takes a fascinating look at Nolan’s mission to create a more grounded Batman, with featurettes that focus on the various filming locations of the movie, designing the iconic Batsuit and tank-like Batmobile, casting for the film, and a look at how Bale got into beastly shape for the role of Batman.

The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises also packed with content, as these films explore the psychology of villains like the Joker and Bane, offer more featurettes to watch, and have various behind-the-scenes content to enjoy.

If you’re interested in The Dark Knight Trilogy Steelbook Library Collection, there’s a good chance you’ll be interested in the Superman 5-Film Steelbook Library Collection, too. This one contains all four of Christopher Reeve’s Superman movies. The reason why it has five films is because it also comes with the Donner Cut of Superman II. This 10-disc box set also has 4K and 1080p discs as well as digital copies, four steelbook cases, and a metal library display case. Superman’s 5-Film Steelbook Library Collection releases September 2, just one week before The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Batman Movie & TV Box Set Deals

At $130, The Dark Knight Trilogy’s Library Collection is certainly pricey, especially when compared to the standard edition and many other Batman box sets you can buy at Amazon. There are some terrific Batman live-action and animated deals right now. For instance, Batman’s 4-Film Collection, which features the live-action films released from 1989-1997 on 4K Blu-ray, is on sale for only $37.49 (was $90). This set comes with Burton’s Batman ’89 and Batman Returns as well as Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. On the animated side of Gotham City, the Batman 80th Anniversary 18-Film Blu-ray Collection is discounted to only $35.76 (was $70)–roughly two bucks per film.
