Mega Aerodactyl returns as a Raid Boss in Pokemon GO from July 28 (10:00am local) to August 4, 2025. Like any other Mega Raid, Mega Aerodactyl will put up a fight. If you manage to beat it in battle, you’re guaranteed an encounter with Aerodactyl. If you’re really lucky, the Aerodactyl may be Shiny.
Pokemon GO‘s Rock/Flying-type Mega Aerodactyl has a Max CP of 4655, which is increased during the Mega Raid battle itself. Mega Aerodactyl is vulnerable to several attack types. However, you’ll need to fight it in a group if you intend to win.

Pokemon GO: Mega Aerodactyl Raid Weaknesses and Resistances
Mega Aerodactyl Type Effectiveness
Rock and Flying-type both have common weaknesses, and Mega Aerodactyl’s dual typing combines these weaknesses. You’ll probably find it easier to exploit its weaknesses to Water and Electric, but you’re encouraged to use moves that target its other type disadvantages. Here’s what you need to know about Mega Aerodactyl’s resistances and weaknesses:
Weaknesses: |
Water, Electric, Rock, Ice, Steel |
---|---|
Resistances: |
Fire, Bug, Normal, Poison, Flying |
* In mainline Pokemon, Flying-types and Pokemon with Levitate have full immunity to Ground-type moves. Since Pokemon GO‘s battle mechanics work differently, Ground-type moves can hit Aerodactyl. Ground-type attacks deal normal damage to Aerodactyl in Pokemon GO, thanks to the Flying part of its dual Rock/Flying-type.

Pokemon GO: Best Mega Aerodactyl Raid Counters
Which Pokemon and Moves Should You Use?
Mega Aerodactyl is best countered with a Mega Evolved Pokemon, a Legendary, or an Ultra Beast. Fortunately, with the inclusion of more Pokemon, you have more counters to Mega Aerodactyl now than you did in 2024.

* Requires Elite Fast TM or Elite Charge TM to learn this Charged Attack. Some exceptions are Quaquaval and Mega Tyranitar, in which their Charged and Fast Attacks were obtainable during their Community Days respectively.
Most of the recommended Charged Attacks for Mega Aerodactyl counters can only be acquired via Elite TMs. You can get these from GO Battle Leagues. Otherwise, you may have to stick with the second-best Charged Attack of the respective Pokemon.
Iron Head (Charged Attack) turns into Behemoth Sword or Behemoth Bash when Zacian/Zamazenta change into their Crowned Sword/Shield forms via Crowned Sword Energy/Crowned Shield Energy.
You’ll also want to avoid bringing Pokemon that are weak to Rock and Flying-type moves. Mega Aerodactyl’s Fast Attack and Charged Attack are likely to be Rock-type moves. In some cases, it may have Dark-type Bite as a Fast Attack, which allows it to counter most Ghost and Psychic-type Pokemon, or Steel Wing (Steel-type), which gives it coverage against most Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type Pokemon.
Shadow Pokemon are generally preferred for Raids due to their Shadow Bonus. As such, you may want to hold off on purifying them. You’ll also need your Shadow Pokemon to learn a new Charged Attack, which requires Stardust and Candy, since it can’t forget Frustration. You may even need to use a Charged TM if the new Charged Attack isn’t what you wanted.
If you manage to defeat Mega Aerodactyl, you’ll have the chance of catching it. While the encounter won’t have Aerodactyl in its Mega Evolved form, catching it from a Mega Raid will reward you with some Mega Energy (200 the first time; 40 energy every other time).
