After conquering the wasteland of Fallout with a well-received TV series, Wolfenstein is the next big project in development at Amazon. The upcoming TV series is being led by Fallout producer Kilter Films and Patrick Somerville, under his Chaoticgood.TV production banner. Jerk Gustafsson from current Wolfenstein games developer MachineGames will also help executive produce the project.
According to Variety, details on the project and its plot remain locked up for now, but it looks like the core premise of killing Nazis is being kept intact. The Wolfenstein video game series has been around since 1981, and 1992’s Wolfenstein 3D from developer Id Software is credited as one of the key games that helped popularize first-person-shooters in the ’90s.
In recent times, MachineGames rebooted the series for a new generation, starting with 2014’s Wolfenstein: The New Order. Amazon’s adaptation will likely use this incarnation of Wolfenstein as the foundation for the show, considering that MachineGames is involved.
Set in an alternate timeline where Germany won World War II after they discovered advanced technology, the games followed US soldier William “B.J” Blazkowicz in his mission to stop the Axis forces.
This isn’t the only video game adaptation in development at Amazon, as in addition to a new season of Fallout and Twisted Metal, the company also God of War, Warhammer 40K, and a Mass Effect TV series in varying stages of development.
