Strategic Opportunities/Minor Orders are one of the most intriguing and fleeting features in Helldivers 2. Only sticking around for a couple of days or so, Helldivers 2’s Strategic Opportunities diversify the Major Order’s pool of objectives and tease significant impacts on the Major Order they belong to. The most recent Minor Order has already passed and been succeeded by players, but the ramifications of such Strategic Opportunities are also plain to see in the Major Order’s glaring reflection.
Helldivers 2’s latest Minor Order read:
-
Exterminate Spore Burst Warriors using the designated weaponry to further boost citizen patriotic fervor.
- Kill 5,000,000 Spore Burst Warriors on Fori Prime with the Stalwart.
The ongoing Major Order in Helldivers 2 has made commendable progress across all enemy factions. But, with roughly a day and a half remaining, it’s looking less likely that players will be able to kill the requisite number of Automaton Factory Striders and Illuminate Leviathans. Helldivers 2 often sees a fair few Major Orders come down to the wire, riding a fine line between succeeding or failing, and that’s no truer than in this current one. The game has done nearly everything in its power to ensure players’ victory in the matter via arsenal augmentations’ weapons experimentation, but the Minor Order’s allure and urgency might’ve been the nail in the Major Order’s coffin.

Helldivers 2’s Successful Minor Order May Have Flushed Its Major Order
Helldivers 2’s current Major Order, with one day left, reads:
-
Kill the designated number of each of the enemies that most frequently plague our citizens’ nightmares.
- Kill 20,000,000/20,000,000 Shriekers (100.0%)
- Kill 12,500,000/12,500,000 Impalers (100.0%)
- Kill 3,315,778/6,250,000 Factory Striders (53.1%)
- Kill 7,500,000/7,500,000 Fleshmobs (100.0%)
- Kill 516,504/1,500,000 Leviathans (34.4%)
It ultimately boils down to player bias, but Terminids were arguably the easiest enemy faction to clear in terms of the particular enemies Helldivers were tasked to slay for this Major Order. Sure, Fleshmobs were the first enemy players reached 100% for, which could insinuate that more players were diving into squid missions, but Helldivers 2’s Leviathans continue to trail behind the pack at a snail’s pace with only 516,504 (34.4%) killed.
Plus, Helldivers 2’s Major Order subtly lowered the number of Leviathans players need to kill from 3,750,000 to 1,500,000, acknowledging and cementing how insurmountable of a foe they’ve been in the last several days.
Meanwhile, the bugs’ enemy quotas are done and dusted, and the spontaneous Minor Order sending Helldivers to Fori Prime probably played a big role in facilitating that. The reward for successful seizure of the Strategic Opportunity is as follows:
“The Helldivers have successfully exterminated 5,000,000 Spore Burst Warriors on FORI PRIME through effective deployment of the Stalwart.
A spike in citizen donations to the War Fund has made possible the short-term addition of the Orbital Railcannon Strike Stratagem to all Helldiver arsenals for the remainder of the current order.”
Helldivers 2’s Bugdivers will always be bugdivers regardless of what tasks they’re given. Still, it can’t be overlooked how a Minor Order that’s so specific likely drew even more players to the bugs’ corner of the galaxy than usual. And, it’s those Helldivers whose efforts on bot and squid planets might’ve helped to make a bigger difference than has been made thus far.
Only Factory Striders and Leviathans are left for players to tackle, yet, at the time of this writing—an important factor when considering anything timely in Helldivers 2’s rapidly evolving landscape—there are just as many players on bug missions as there are on squid missions, whilst the majority of players are cozying up next to the Democracy Space Station (DSS) on Claorell. This suggests that many players are focusing their attention on Factory Striders and allowing Leviathans to fall by the wayside, but only time will tell if a great enough slaughtering of either of these gargantuan opponents can commence before the Major Order expires.
