Snails are Tier 3 creatures in Grounded 2 that players will encounter very early on in the game. While not aggressive, Snails seem almost impossible to kill at first glance because of their ability to hide inside their impenetrable shell at the first indication of danger.
As soon as players attack a Snail, it will immediately retreat back into its shell and will not emerge until it sees the coast is clear. Though it might appear to be the case, these slow-moving garden-dwellers are by no means invincible and can be brought down with the right strategy. Here’s how to do so.

How to Kill Snails in Grounded 2
When a Snail is attacked, it will immediately retract its head back into its shell and becomes untargetable. The shell itself cannot be damaged, but the Snail can be tricked into coming out into the open if the player character retreats to a safe distance.
When the Snail senses there is no one else nearby, it will pop its head out and look around. If it sees no one hostile in its immediate vicinity, it will fully emerge. Snails do not recover HP while inside their shells, which means any damage players do matters. You can kill a Snail using the following steps.
- Attack a Snail once, and it will retract into its shell.
- Retreat until the Snail thinks it’s safe and comes out.
- Run back in and attack again.
- Repeat until dead.
If your Buggy is nearby, use the “Stay” option to avoid spooking the Snail accidentally.
The best weapon to kill Snails is the bow and arrow, as it naturally allows the player to deal damage from a distance, making it easy to trick the creatures. That said, killing a Snail using a melee weapon is also possible, though it will take longer. Additionally, two-handed clubs with high stun damage can perma-stun a Snail to death, but they are not a requirement. Upgrading weapons to deal more damage will make the hunt faster as well.
If you’re having trouble approaching the Snail the second time, use the dual daggers’ dash strike ability to close the distance instantly.
Once killed, Snails drop Garden Snail Slime and Raw Snail Meat. Combined with Lingonberry Leather, Garden Snail Slime can be used to make Lingonberry Bandage, an advanced healing item that can stop Sizzle status buildup when used. Raw Snail Meat is used in certain cooking recipes in Grounded 2. They also drop Garden Snail Shell, which is a Tier 3 item that requires a Level 3 Omni-Hammer to obtain.
