Square Enix announced that Octopath Traveler 0, a new entry in the Octopath series, will launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC on December 4. The new RPG takes story and gameplay elements from the smartphone game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, retooled into a new standalone, offline single-player title, giving fans a new way to experience the narrative. Preorders for the game are available now, and there are multiple versions up for grabs–including a $50 standard edition you can grab at Amazon and Best Buy. There’s also a $70 Digital Deluxe Edition and a massive $230 Collector’s Edition available exclusively through Square Enix’s online store. Octopath Traveler 0 Preorder Bonuses
Preordering any version of Octopath Traveler 0 gets you the Travel Provisions Pack, which includes in-game items and skills to give you a slight edge during the early hours of the game. Here’s the pack’s full in-game contents:

This is the base version of Octopath Traveler 0. It includes the full base game, plus the Travel Provisions Pack if you preorder. Physical preorders are available for $50 at Amazon and Best Buy. Digital preorders are also available.
While you can preorder the Octopath Traveler physical standard edition for PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch, it’s worth noting that the Switch 2 physical version is yet another Game-Key Card release. That means none of the actual game data is included on the cartridge, which instead works as physical DRM that lets you download and play the digital version of the game to your Switch 2. That said, the other three platforms all include the full game data on their physical media. The Switch 2 can play Switch 1 games, so you can purchase the Switch version of Octopath Traveler 0 if you want the game on cartridge. However, Square Enix is not offering an upgrade path for the Switch 1 version–so if you want the Switch 2 version with better performance and visual fidelity, you’re stuck with the Game-Key Card or digital versions of the game.
Octopath Traveler 0 Digital Deluxe Edition

Those who prefer digital games can also grab the $60 Octopath Traveler 0 Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes everything from the base game, plus a bonus pack of helpful items and–for most consoles–a digital art book. Note that the digital art book is not included in the PS4 Digital Deluxe Edition.

Octopath Traveler 0 Collector’s Edition

For die-hard fans, there’s also the Octopath Traveler 0 Collector’s Edition. This massive $230 physical edition is available exclusively from the Square Enix Store. Octopath Traveller 0 is the third game in the Octopath Traveler series, and as the 0 in the title implies, it’s positioned as the earliest story in the series’s in-universe chronology. Those who played the first two games in the series will recognize the Octopath Traveler 0’s HD-2D graphics style and turn-based combat system, which expands the number of characters in your party to eight–rather than the four-character combat parties compared to the previous games. Octopath Traveler 0 also introduces a new town-building system where players rebuild their home village after it’s destroyed in the opening of the story.
If you haven’t played the first two games in the series, you can pick up physical copies of Octopath Traveler on Switch for $50, while Octopath Traveler II is available on Switch, PS5, and PS4. The PS4 release includes a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Octopath Traveler 0 isn’t the only big new game coming soon from Square Enix. Octopath Traveler 0 was also revealed alongside a new HD-2D action RPG, Elliot: The Millennium Tales, during the July 31 Nintendo Partner Showcase. While it’s not available for preorder yet, players can grab a demo if they want to check out the new adventure.
Square Enix is also launching several remakes and remasters in the coming weeks, starting with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, which is a ground-up overhaul of the PS1 original launching for Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC via Steam on September 30. A few weeks later, fans of classic turn-based RPGs can look forward to the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, which launches on PC and consoles on, Preorders for all these games are available now. It’s worth noting that the Switch 2 Editions for all these games are, once again, Game-Key Card releases.
