It’s official: Darksiders 4 is happening, and it is going to be a proper sequel to the original game featuring all four Horsemen as playable characters. Though few details are available about it right now, Darksiders 4 will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
On August 2, 2024, THQ Nordic confirmed a new Darksiders game was in development. However, the short teaser trailer was coy about whether it would be a sequel, another parallel game like Darksiders 2 or 3, a prequel like Darksiders Genesis, or a remake of the original.

Now, almost exactly a year later, THQ Nordic has confirmed Darksiders is finally getting an actual sequel. During the THQ Nordic showcase, a new teaser trailer for Darksiders 4 was revealed, officially confirming the game is coming for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. The video features the dialogue from the end of Darksiders where Uriel asks War if he will wage his multi-front battle against the factions that are hunting him on his own. The protagonist responds that he will not fight alone, after which the solitary Horseman is joined by the other three: Death, Fury, and Strife.
Darksiders 4 Is a Proper Sequel to the Original Game
While this trailer provides little information about how the game will play, Darksiders 4’s page on Steam provides some further details. The title will continue “where the original Darksiders game left off,” confirming it is a tried-and-true sequel to the first entry. The third-person action-adventure game will feature puzzles like its earlier entries, along with “fast-paced, visceral action blending melee, fluid traversal, and supernatural abilities.” Most importantly, players will be able to control all four Darksiders Horsemen and their unique weapons and fighting styles. The game is listed as having online co-op, so it is possible multiple people may be able to control different Horsemen at the same time.
It has been 15 years since the original Darksiders game was released. Though three other Darksiders games have come out since then, none of them have been actual sequels – Darksiders 2 and 3 follow the adventures of Death and Fury respectively during the same general time period as the first game, and Darksiders Genesis is a prequel. Fans have been waiting for the better part of two decades to learn what happens next in the series, so the fact they will finally be able to find out soon is huge.
That said, players will still probably have to wait a little while. THQ Nordic has given no release date or timeframe for when Darksiders 4 is coming, and the lack of gameplay footage implies it is still a ways off. Either way, even if gamers don’t see it until 2026, 2027, or later, the fact it is coming at all is exciting enough.
