Battlefield 6 is already topping the sales charts on both PlayStation 5 and Steam, just 24 hours after its big multiplayer reveal event. Battlefield 6 isn’t due to launch until October 10, but with so much hype surrounding the series’ return, fans are clearly excited to finally jump back into the high-octane shooter, as it has already soared to the number one spot on two different platforms.
It has been four years since EA published a new entry in the Battlefield series, but the launch of Battlefield 2042 was a massive disappointment for many fans. EA and DICE were criticized for Battlefield 2042‘s bugs and glitches, its lack of a server browser and scoreboard, the removal of the series’ traditional class system, and more. But fans’ hopes are high for Battlefield 6 following its multiplayer reveal on July 31, as EA appears to have taken the feedback on board and is gearing up to give fans what could potentially be an all-time classic. Hype surrounding the shooter seems to be through the roof, as Battlefield 6 has already achieved something massively impressive.
Each year, Call of Duty tops the sales charts. While this year is likely to be no different, EA could have a very strong chance of dethroning the FPS king with Battlefield 6 this year. As there are still a couple of months left until the next Battlefield game is released, only time will tell. However, the shooter is already off to an impressive start. As spotted by CharlieIntel, Battlefield 6 is already topping the sales charts on both PlayStation 5 and Steam. The exact number of pre-orders on each platform is unknown, but for Battlefield 6 to already be beating the likes of EA Sports FC 26, Mafia: The Old Country, and NBA 2K26, it’s clear that this is likely going to be a big year for Battlefield.
Battlefield 6 Is Already Topping Sales Charts
It’s going to take a lot for Battlefield 6 to dethrone Black Ops 7, but if there was ever a year for the series to overtake Call of Duty, this is the year. While Battlefield 6 is already off to a great start in terms of pre-orders, its first test will come on August 7 when the shooter goes head-to-head with the current Call of Duty title, Black Ops 6. The date is going to be significant for both games, as Black Ops 6 will release its big Season 5 update on the very same day that Battlefield 6 kicks off its first beta testing period. First-person shooter fans will need to decide which is more appealing: another Call of Duty update or the very first opportunity to go hands-on with the next Battlefield game.
While it’s been a great year for Call of Duty in terms of sales, Black Ops 6 has had controversy after controversy since its launch in October 2024. The community is making it clear to publisher Activision that it is growing tired of constant collaborations, unrealistic cosmetic items, and lackluster seasonal updates. Although Season 3 brought tons of players back to Warzone thanks to the return of Verdansk, fans are seemingly calling out for a more grounded, realistic shooter, and Battlefield 6 could be stepping up at the exact right time.
There have already been rumors circulating that Black Ops 7 will allow fans to carry forward their purchased cosmetic items from Black Ops 6, which means fans will need to endure another year of cartoon operator skins. Battlefield 6, on the other hand, has already made it clear that its approach to skins and cosmetic items will be more grounded and fit the theme of the shooter. With so many fans seemingly tired of Call of Duty‘s collaborations and skins, this could be the first year for a long time that the series has a true competitor in Battlefield 6.
