The One True Flag in Helldivers 2 remains capable of dishing out damage following its recent revision, although seemingly not to the extent that many of its fans had hoped. Some Helldivers 2 players have recently labeled this detail as disappointing, arguing that Arrowhead Game Studios should rethink the way it has handled the recent changes to the flag.
A melee support weapon, the CQC-1 One True Flag has been part of the hit game since mid-May 2025, when Helldivers 2 was updated to version 1.003.000, receiving a new weapon customization system in the process. Its lance-like gameplay immediately established itself as highly accessible and conducive to some genuine hilarity, especially after Arrowhead changed it to have the flag start sticking to enemies.
Helldivers 2 Players Confused Over One True Flag’s Recent Changes
The 1.003.200 update that rolled out in mid-July 2025 reduced the flag’s viability, even though it was less of a nerf and more a collection of fixes intended to have it start working as Arrowhead planned from the outset. Since then, Helldivers 2 players trying to take on the Chargers have consistently found that they are now invulnerable to the flag. While this was a balancing tweak, some fans still appear frustrated with the current state of things, especially considering mechs continue to take damage from having a flag planted on them, as recently pointed out by the vividly named Reddit user PickledAsbestos.
While this was hardly the first time that the Charger had its survivability impacted by an update, the occasion did not mark a true nerf of the flag itself. The Chargers were always meant to be invulnerable to it, but then the lance-like weapon ended up completely ignoring their breakable armor upon release due to a bug or a multiple thereof. As a result, the One True Flag ended up delivering consistent hurt to some of the most heavily armored enemies in the game despite being designed as a low-damage, high-hilarity kind of tool.
While the idea that Chargers can face-tank a flag more effectively than mechs may seem counterintuitive, it aligns with the game’s logic of assigning them a higher armor rating. Nonetheless, some players disagree with this on a fundamental level, arguing that the original bugged system that allowed meleeing Chargers offered more fun than Arrowhead’s “fixed” version. Whether the developer might consider once again buffing the Helldivers 2 flag as a result of these grievances is unclear.
Plenty more players may soon be hearing about the flag’s short-lived meta relevance for the first time later this month, when Helldivers 2 launches on the Xbox Series X/S. While several PlayStation-owned IPs—including Lego Horizon Adventures and MLB: The Show—have already debuted on Microsoft’s consoles in recent memory, Helldivers 2 will make history for being the first game to do so with Sony Interactive Entertainment as its publisher.
