Koei Tecmo has announced new DLC for Dynasty Warriors: Origins and a remaster of an older title to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary. The latest entry in the long-running franchise has injected new life into it, attracting both longtime fans and new players after a period of relative silence. As gamers flood back to the hack-and-slash series, the Dynasty Warriors: Origins team has doubled down on giving the fanbase new content to look forward to.
Before Dynasty Warriors: Origins launched in January 2025, the franchise was in something of a slump. It had been seven years since the last mainline release, the series’ longest gap to date, and many fans felt the previous two entries didn’t live up to the standard their PS2-era predecessors had set. However, Origins has seemed to turn things around, which comes just in time for the 25th anniversary.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins Is Getting a “Major DLC” and a Remaster Is in the Works
On August 3, publisher Koei Tecmo revealed a trailer of what Dynasty Warriors fans can expect going forward to celebrate 25 years since the second game’s release. Most of the video consists of gameplay from older titles to show how far the franchise has come, but around the one-minute mark, it is announced that a “major DLC” is in development for Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The series reboot has been a massive success, with Origins selling over one million copies in under a month, so it makes sense that the company would want to keep the good times rolling with additional content. That was not the only big announcement in store for fans, though.
The 25th anniversary trailer also revealed that the team is working on a remaster of an older Dynasty Warriors title. It wasn’t confirmed which entry would get the treatment, but a graphic counting back through previous installments makes it seem like it will be something earlier than Dynasty Warriors 8 or 9. Many fans say that Dynasty Warriors 4 is the best in the series, but 3 and 2 are also notably well-reviewed and beloved, so any of those would make solid remaster candidates.
It’s similarly unclear what the DLC will include or when it will come out. Earlier this year, the devs confirmed that Omega Force had canceled Dynasty Warriors 10 ahead of Origins‘ development but had incorporated some elements from that canned project into the new title. Given that history, the team could use the DLC to bring back more of what the canceled game might’ve included, but it could just as well be brand-new content. Whatever the case, there are exciting things ahead for the Dynasty Warriors franchise.
