Over the years, the Dragon Ball franchise has introduced some of the greatest characters throughout all of anime. These characters have gone down as the most iconic and beloved when it comes to the genre as a whole, cementing themselves as staples of the industry who have defined the genre, with even the world’s biggest mangaka owing their start to Akira Toriyama’s incredible series and its amazing characters.
Among them, many of the best in all of Dragon Ball are those who exist in the non-canon of the franchise. With the original films of Z and the few offshoot shows, there have been a wealth of characters that fans have begged to be introduced within the canon due to how great they were. So, in this article, let’s go over the seven characters who really should be brought back into the canon of Dragon Ball.

Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta Can Finally Be Introduced Within The Canon
The Greatest Fusion
First Appearance |
Dragon Ball GT, Episode 60, “Fusion! The Ultimate Super Gogeta” |
---|---|
Story Arc |
Shadow Dragon Saga |
- Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta is now finally possible.
Long before the start of Super and the introduction of Super Saiyan Blue, this version of Gogeta held the title of the most powerful Saiyan in the franchise’s history for around two decades, a title which only changed after Vegito went Super Saiyan Blue against Zamasu. When he debuted in GT, fans immediately fell in love with this incredible powerhouse who merged the strengths of Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan 4 states.
The Saiyans? They’re here. I am they – we are one. Unfortunately for you, Omega!
As the franchise currently stands, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta can finally make a comeback, since Gogeta was made canon in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and Goku unlocked Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball Daima. Bringing this hero back is something that every fan would love to see, since many consider him to be the best part of GT as a whole. Fusion has always been a beloved concept, and Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta would be perfect to bring it back.

Baby Is Considered By Many Fans To Be GT’s Greatest Antagonist
The Evil Tuffle
First Appearance |
Dragon Ball GT, Episode 22, “The Baby Secret” |
---|---|
Story Arc |
Baby Saga |
- Many consider Baby to be GT’s best villain.
Dragon Ball GT was criticized a lot upon its release, and for good reason too. However, almost everyone unanimously agreed that the first major antagonist of GT, Baby, was one of the best villains not only in this non-canon series, but in the franchise as a whole. Baby’s personality was electric, and he was a breath of fresh air in Dragon Ball as a villain who used his mind just as much as he used his strength.
My friends, what the Saiyans have destroyed, we will rebuild!
By taking over Vegeta’s body, he became far stronger than anyone could have imagined, forcing Goku to dig deep in order to unlock his Super Saiyan 4 form. Moreover, the entire storyline revolving around Baby’s need for revenge was amazing, as it showed the Saiyans reeling from the consequences of the actions of their warmongering race, which would be an amazing thing to see in modern Dragon Ball as well.

Omega Shenron Was Born From The Misuse Of The Dragon Balls
The Greatest Shadow Dragon
First Appearance |
Dragon Ball GT, Episode 57, “The One-Star Dragon” |
---|---|
Story Arc |
Shadow Dragon Saga |
- Omega Shenron was the perfect final villain conceptually.
Although it has its flaws, there are a few things that GT did exceptionally well, chief among which was the Shadow Dragon Saga. Though far from having the perfect plot, this arc showed that the central theme behind the franchise as a whole, which is to make wishes through the Dragon Balls, didn’t come without any consequences. The misuse of wishes caused the balls to become corrupted and spawn the Shadow Dragons.
All the Shadow Dragons were born because you misused the Dragon Balls, remember?
This was the perfect concept for a final arc, since it took the central component of Dragon Ball and flipped it on its head. Omega Shenron was the ultimate foe that the heroes needed to take down, so he filled the role of an incredible antagonist from a conceptual and thematic point, at least. The best reason to bring him back, however, has more to do with how awesome the concept of the Shadow Dragon arc is more than anything else.

Cooler Is Perhaps The Best Villain From All The Dragon Ball Z Films
Frieza’s Proud Older Brother
First Appearance |
Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge |
---|---|
Story Arc |
Cooler’s Revenge Arc |
- Cooler is a fan-favorite villain who people have been wanting to see again for years.
Of all the villains that have been introduced in the non-canon stories of Dragon Ball, there is perhaps none who is as beloved as Frieza’s jealous older brother, Cooler. In each of the films with him as the central antagonist, Cooler continuously stole every single scene he was in with his impeccable design, arrogant attitude, and clear disdain for both his brother and the Saiyan race.
I am the supreme master of this universe! I am the great destroyer, the taker of life!
Fans have been hoping and theorizing about this character’s potential introduction to the canon for decades, and Super offers the perfect opportunity to see him again. With the confirmation of the Dragon Ball multiverse, it’s possible that Cooler acts as a version of Frieza in another universe, who may even be a secondary main antagonist when the Black Frieza arc eventually comes around.

Pikkon Was An Ally To Goku And Was An Incredibly Powerful Namekian
A Great Character
First Appearance |
Dragon Ball Z, Episode 195, “Warriors of the Dead” |
---|---|
Story Arc |
Other World Saga |
- Pikkon was a great character and another powerful Namekian aside from Piccolo.
Pikkon’s canonicity is a topic of much debate since the Other World saga as a whole only appeared as filler for the anime and wasn’t even in the manga. Despite this, Pikkon always stood out as a great character to many fans, especially when he was reintroduced as a vital ally of Goku’s during the Fusion Reborn film, where he managed to distract Janemba enough for Goku and Vegeta to fuse.
He’s either a fighting genius… or a total fool!
Typically, Namekians are generally sidelined way too often in the story despite them being one of the most important races in the entire multiverse. Despite this, Piccolo is the only Namekian who has been properly fleshed out, so the series should surely focus more on them much more than it currently does, which would be the perfect way to reintroduce Pikkon within the canon.
2
Janemba Was A Supremely Powerful And Incredibly Menacing Villain
The Demon of Hell
First Appearance |
Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn |
---|---|
Story Arc |
Fusion Reborn Arc |
- Janemba was so strong that Gogeta was needed to defeat him.
Janemba is one of the most terrifying foes in the greater Dragon Ball franchise. Personality-wise, he is almost identical to Kid Buu as a mindless monster who wants nothing more than to spread destruction and negativity. However, with the reveal of the Demon Realm in Daima, he can be reintroduced in the series as an incredibly powerful demon who would be far more intelligent than his non-canon counterpart.
With the ruling hierarchy of the Demon Realm now being a confirmed part of the Dragon Ball canon, those who want to see Janemba again can see him as a potential ruler of this kind of realm. He would also be powerful enough to warrant Goku and Vegeta fusing into Gogeta again, creating an amazing callback to one of the franchise’s most beloved fights.

Tapion Was A Virtuous Hero And His Connection To Trunks Was Great
A Legendary Hero
First Appearance |
Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon |
---|---|
Story Arc |
Wrath of the Dragon Arc |
- Tapion was an amazing hero.
Although he isn’t one of the most popular characters in the wider Dragon Ball franchise, Tapion was a great hero, and his ties to both Trunks and his sword were amazing to see. Of course, his entire character arc is directly tied to Hirudegarn, but he can still be introduced as someone separate from that, especially considering that he is an alien hero in the Wrath of the Dragon film.
For too long, you’ve fed on the misery of others. You stole from me everything precious and dear. But no more. It ends now!
When Future Trunks made his debut in the Android Saga, one of the coolest parts about him was his awesome sword, which he used to slice Mecha-Frieza into many little pieces. The Wrath of the Dragon film introduced Tapion as the one who used this sword before him, so the entire thing tied back to one of Dragon Ball’s best characters quite nicely. Of course, this could happen once again in the canon with Tapion in Super.
Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
