Ready or Not has some seriously intense shootouts with its load guns that often lead to grim outcomes. However, lethal violence isn’t always the answer, and players who want to get a perfect score for each mission will need to use the game’s selection of non-lethal weaponry.
Scoring an S-rank in Ready or Not’s missions is tough, and even more so if the mission players want to do is already hard to begin with. Still, the right loadout can make a significant difference. Here’s a universal non-lethal loadout that should help you clear every mission in the game relatively easily.
Best Non-Lethal S-Rank Build in Ready or Not
Primary Weapon |
VPL-25 with preferred attachments |
Sidearm |
TRPL with no magazines |
Long Tactical |
Mirrorgun or M320 CS Gas |
Grenades |
CS Gas |
Armor |
Heavy Steel with Gas Mask |
The non-lethal weapon options in the game are fairly limited, but they all do the same thing: neutralize suspects without critically injuring them. The build above is a gas-heavy loadout that’s effective at all ranges in the game.
The VPL-25 is a rifle that fires pepperball rounds. These rounds break on impact and release tear gas to incapacitate targets. Once you pepper a suspect, you will need to yell at them so they drop their weapons and surrender.
Keep in mind that hits from the VPL-25 (or any pepperball gun) will not cause enemies to flinch or take damage like a regular bullet would. This means that suspects will still have time to pop a few shots at you before entering a coughing fit. This is why heavy steel armor is preferred — it will let you absorb some hits in case you get caught outside of cover.
The Beanbag Shotgun can drop a suspect in one or two shots, but it has limited range and can potentially kill someone. If you want to take a suspect down more quickly, consider using the Beanbag Shotgun instead.
Why No Secondary Ammo?
Players will likely burn through their VPL’s ammo quickly throughout a mission, which is why this build sacrifices all secondary magazines for more primary magazines. Eight VPL magazines and three CS Gas grenades are usually enough even for long missions, but if you want, you can also bring no grenades, 11 VPL mags, and an M320 Gas launcher, which comes with four gas shells.
Gas Mask
Since this is a gas-heavy build, having a gas mask on is pretty much essential. This will keep you from getting affected by your own equipment, and it will let you breach rooms while everyone else is still coughing up a storm. Never start a mission using this build without it.
What About AI Teammates?
You can give this loadout to your NPC squaddies, and they should have no problem clearing maps with you. Order them to gas every room you plan to enter, then blast anyone holding a gun with your VPL. As long as suspects are armed, shooting them with a pepperball gun will not incur penalties.
