Elden Ring Nightreign Ranked Mode Could Be Coming, According To Datamine

Elden Ring Nightreign just introduced an option for two-player duos, and now it looks like a new, more mysterious mode could be coming to developer From Software’s multiplayer experiment: a ranked mode.

Dataminers on Reddit (via PC Gamer) who have combed through the files of the latest Nightreign update have revealed what looks to be a new mode that could come to the game in the future. It’s called the Deep of Night and appears to be a ranked mode of sorts where victory can increase a player’s rating, unlocking more challenging Depths in the process.

“Victory will increase your rating, burnishing your Depth,” a datamined description for the mode reads. “The darkness extends unto infinity.”

Based on datamined screenshots, there looks to be five ranks, or Depths, for players to reach, with a skill-based matchmaking system that will group players of a similar rating together. Each Depth will be progressively more difficult, and while it appears players can lose rating on failed runs, it sounds like losing won’t ever reset players to a previous Depth.

“If you continually lose rating, your Depth will be reduced, but once you have reached Depth 2, you cannot return to Depth 1,” the datamined description for the mode states.

In terms of gameplay changes, it seems like Deep of Night will introduce new “magmafied” enemy forms for players to contend with, and weapons discovered in the mode will come with debuffs as well as buffs. Players will seemingly also be able to earn three more relic slots where “Depth Relics” can be equipped that only function in the Deep of Night game mode.

It’s unclear when Deep of Night mode might be added to Elden Ring Nightreign, but it’s worth noting that all of the info above should be taken with a grain of salt and is subject to change, as From Software has not officially announced the mode. Still, it certainly sounds like an exciting addition to Elden Ring Nightreign’s endgame, but players will have to wait to learn official details.

Elden Ring Nightreign is just one of From Software’s ongoing projects. The developer revealed earlier this year its working on another multiplayer-focused RPG, The Duskbloods, that will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. A recent report indicated From Software is also far along in development on another, unannounced game that will reportedly debut in 2026.

While multiplayer games do seem to be a current focus for the studio, From Software boss Hidetaka Miyazaki said the studio isn’t abandoning single-player games and will continue to make games that embrace the studio’s “more traditional style.”
