In a world as dangerous as the one seen in Naruto, a ninja always needs to have comrades around them to help out when the going gets tough. This has resulted in many characters banding together to create a trio who are able to use their abilities and Jutsu techniques to fend off anyone who dares to threaten them or the safety of their village.
However, it’s one thing for a group of three to be powerful, but in order for them to keep the fans’ attention, they also need to share a strong chemistry and bond that makes them believable and realistic. The good news is, there are more than a few trios seen throughout the Naruto series who fit this description, so with that being said, it’s time to take a deeper look at the very best groups of three who have been shown in the story.
Hinata, Shino, And Kiba
Polar Opposites Who Came Together In The Chunin Exams
The Chunin Exam marks the introduction of several crucial characters who would end up making their mark on the series, and this includes Hinata, Shino, and Kiba, who are all part of Team 8. What really makes this unlikely trio stand out is how different they are in terms of their personalities and fighting styles. While Kiba may be a hot-headed ninja who loves getting into the action as quickly as possible, Hinata is timid and fairly naive; meanwhile, Shino is just a creepy weirdo who enjoys using his bugs to send chills down his opponent’s spines.
It’s always a lot of fun seeing these three interact with one another, since if it weren’t for the ninja team structure, it’s highly unlikely they would have ever become friends in the first place. Unfortunately, they don’t get as much screen time as many of the other teams, but they’re still a very memorable group that many fans have come to love.
Nagato, Konan, And Yahiko
Orphans Who Bonded After Losing Their Parents In A War
Nagato, Konan, and Yahiko are a group of orphans who lost each of their parents in the brutal Second Great Ninja War. After being taken in and trained by Jiraiya of the Legendary Sannin, these three young and aspiring ninja would eventually become extremely powerful, with their hatred for war and conflict inspiring their nihilistic worldview.
While these three are primarily shown through flashbacks, they also play a very relevant role in the Pain arc, where it is revealed that they’ve been working together to usher the world into a new state of terror where they can teach people about the true meaning of pain. They don’t appear in the story for very long, but the tragic story behind these orphans and their development as characters have made them a trio that no fan can ever forget about.
Rock Lee, Neji, And Tenten
Team Guy Are Always Pushing One Another To Be The Best Versions Of Themselves
When the Genin ninja teams are first introduced during the Chunin Exams, it’s clear that Team Guy don’t exactly get along all that well with one another. The main reason for this is that Lee is completely unable to use Ninjutsu; meanwhile, Neji, who was a snobby member of the Hyuga clan, possesses an arsenal of deadly Jutsu techniques which he uses to overwhelm his opponents. Then there’s Tenten, who utilizes ninja weaponry and tools to get the job done. Needless to say, they all have very different ways of approaching a battle, ultimately resulting in the team becoming very competitive.
As seen during Rock Lee’s fight with Gaara, the passion each of them has for outdoing one another pushes them to the edge of their abilities, with Lee going all out just in an effort to impress Neji and Tenten during the exam. There have also been many episodes in Shippuden that focused on the trio taking down several tricky opponents, which is always a treat for fans who get to see this lovable and quirky group working together to achieve a common goal.
Tsunade, Jiraiya, And Orochimaru
One Of The Most Powerful Ninja Trios To Have Ever Lived
In the main story of Naruto, Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya come across as people who are from completely different walks of life, but that actually couldn’t be further from the truth. Many years ago, these three made up a group which was known as the Legendary Sannin, who would all be trained by the Third Hokage to eventually go on and become immensely powerful ninjas who were instructed to protect Konoha from all incoming danger.
Because a few characters only mention the Legendary Sannin here and there in passing conversations, it ends up making them very intriguing to learn about, especially when considering they all ended up in entirely different places after the group was disbanded. No long-time fan will ever be able to forget the epic moment when these three came face to face in the main story, even though it only happens a handful of times.
Gaara, Temari, And Kankuro
A Terrifying Trio Hailing From The Hidden Sand Village
Gaara, Tamari, and Kankuro may have all eventually become allies to Naruto and the ninjas of Konoha, but this certainly wasn’t the case when they first debuted in the series. As a mysterious group who had traveled from the Hidden Sand Village, there was always a mysterious and creepy aura surrounding these three that made them very unpredictable, especially Gaara, who was more than happy to use his sand abilities to crush anyone who stood in his way.
The main reason the group is so fun to watch though is the unique dynamic that is at the core of their relationship. Kankuro and Tamari care deeply for Gaara, and, as a result, they are the ones who are constantly trying to keep an eye on him any time he starts getting a little too bloodthirsty. At the same time, though, these two are also incredibly vicious fighters who will defend Gaara until their very last breath, so while they might sometimes seem at odds with one another, there’s clearly a lot of love shared between the Sand Trio.
Shikamaru, Ino, And Choji
Team 10 Have Received Some Incredible Development As A Group
While many of the ninja teams have been through their fair share of hardships over the course of the series, Team 10 has had an especially brutal experience since they first signed up to become Ninja. After their teacher, Asuma, was brutally murdered by the Akatsuki – Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji would be forced to take responsibility for their own team, while also confiding in one another after losing the figurehead of their group.
They would once again receive a big focus in the final war where they were forced to take on a reanimated Asuma while holding back their underlying feelings in the process, resulting in one of the most emotional fights in all of Naruto. The amount of development this group has been given, paired with their bizarre team fighting style, is the major reason why Team 10 is held in such high regard by so many fans.
Kakashi, Rin, And Obito
Close Friends Who Were Torn Apart by The World Around Them
While fans had long awaited to learn more about Kakashi’s backstory and past, nobody could have expected just how much of an emotional roller coaster this powerful ninja had already been on before the main series even kicked off. Kakashi, alongside his teammates Rin and Obito, was taught by none other than the Fourth Hokage, and Naruto’s father, Minato. As a team, they worked pretty well together and had always promised to have one another’s backs anytime someone started lagging behind; though there was still clearly fierce competition between Kakashi and Obito to prove who was the stronger of the two.
Sadly though, the group wouldn’t be around for very long. After Obito is crushed by a boulder and seemingly killed for good, not long after, it is revealed that Rin has been implanted with a Tailed Beast, essentially turning it into a ticking time bomb that Kakashi is forced to kill out of mercy. It’s honestly heartbreaking to see this lovable group of kids being torn apart by the world around them, and considering how relevant they are to the main story, especially Obito and his personal ideology, they are extremely important to know about and one of the most fascinating ninja teams in the series.
Naruto, Sasuke, And Sakura
Bonds That Can Never Be Broken
The Naruto story all started with Team 7, a group of ragtag ninja who, despite being nothing alike, would end up forging an impenetrable bond, which is ultimately at the core of the entire story. What started off as a comical love triangle ends up becoming much more serious after Sasuke decides to leave Konoha, forcing both Naruto and Sakura to deal with his departure in their own ways. While this trio has been through a lot together, including getting into fist fights on plenty of occasions, they managed to overcome all the adversity to rejoin for one final fight at the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War.
A very prominent theme of Naruto is friendship, and more specifically, how difficult it can be for someone to let go of a bond once it has been cemented, and this is represented by Team 7. Though there have been times when they have downright hated one another, despite the dangers they faced along their adventures, they are still always a team, which is why it’s so exciting to see them all appear on-screen at the same time, especially in the later arcs of the story after so much had happened.
