The following contains spoilers from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga and anime.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is set to be the most influential and emotionally moving arc of the series so far. With the Demon Slayer Corps prepared for an all-out confrontation with Muzan’s underlings, the stakes have never been higher. In this brutal war, the Hashira are poised to play a crucial role in ensuring that the Demon King does not succeed in carrying out his evil plans.
However, some demon slayers who are yet to achieve the highest rank in the Demon Slayer Corps are also going to punch above their weight and shock some of the strongest demons in existence with their remarkable talent and dramatic evolution. Their impact will be huge, and they might just turn out to be the decisive factor in the war between good and evil.
Underrated Demon Slayers Are Set to Make a Mark in Infinity Castle
Tanjiro, Inosuke, Kanao, and Doma Will Punch Above Their Weight as They Face Upper Moons
The Infinity Castle is an interdimensional space controlled by Nakime and used by Muzan Kibutsuji as his lair. It can be manipulated instantaneously by the new Upper Rank Four and puts the demon at a significant advantage in an all-out war with the Demon Slayer Corps. Following the ambush on Kibutsuji, the Demon Slayer Corps was trapped inside the Infinity Castle with their backs against the wall and an uphill challenge of defeating Muzan’s underlings before fighting the Demon King himself.
Somehow I feel the people I care for and those important to me will still be alive tomorrow. But that’s just my hope and there’s no way I can promise that with any certainty. Why do people… believe such things? ~ Kanao Tsuyuri
In this precarious state, the Demon Slayer Corps is lucky to have the Hashira, a group of prodigious swordsmen who can fight beyond their physical limitations and pose a challenge to the Upper Moons. Since some of them have already manifested a Demon Slayer Mark, they seem well-prepared for an all-out battle that will conclude decades-old conflict between good and evil. But even with these remarkable powers at their disposal, the Hashira are not prepared for the challenge ahead, as Upper Moons like Akaza, Doma, and Kokushibo have powers to trick death and even survive decapitation.
As crucial as the Hashira are for the battle against Kibutsuji’s underlings, they cannot thrive without the active participation of perhaps the most talented young swordsmen of the Taisho Era, who are set to make a mark in the Infinity Castle. Kamado Tanjiro has already been a crucial combatant in this battle against Muzan ever since he joined the Demon Slayer Corps. He played a critical role in the manifestation of the Demon Slayer Mark in the Swordsmith Village, which allowed Muichiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji to fight at their best. But as he is set to face his arch-enemy, Akaza, to avenge Kyojuro Rengoku, the high stakes and the emotional baggage are going to bring the best out of him. Tanjiro will transform in the process into a combatant that will leave even the Hashira in awe.
Interestingly, Kamado won’t be the only demon slayer who is set to undergo a transformative journey during the battle in the Infinity Castle. His close friend Zenitsu had already isolated himself before he was trapped in the extradimensional space by Nakime along with his peers. Driven by a burning desire to avenge his master, he has set his eyes on his old bully, Kaigaku. Unlike his peers who are going to have the privilege of using a Demon Slayer Mark, Agatsuma will be fighting all by himself. This battle will reshape him into a fighter he probably never even dreamt of, while also revealing his true potential.
Apart from Zenitsu and Tanjiro, Inosuke also faces an uphill battle as he confronts Doma along with Kanao Tsuyuri. They will be the only two demon slayers who will fight one of the top three demons of the Twelve Kizuki without a mark and without the support of a Hashira. What makes this battle exciting is the emotionally charged circumstances in which the confrontation will transpire. Kanao and Inosuke will be on the edge from start to the end. When the dust finally settles, they will shock everyone.
What Makes Zenitsu, Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Kanao’s Roles so Important?
Zenitsu, Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Kanao are not rated as highly as the Hashira. This is especially true for Kanao, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, who were not even present during the battle in the Swordsmith Village when Tanjiro manifested a mark. In the Infinity Castle, the Hashira were expected to be the driving force in the battle against Muzan’s underlings. While they are certainly going to make a huge impact, they would have been seriously outmatched had it not been for the valiant efforts of other demon slayers like Zenitsu and others.
These young swordsmen are not considered worthy of being promoted as Hashira, but they are set to fight on equal footing with Muzan’s underlings, showcasing that they are truly the reliable pillars that are yet to get formal recognition from the Demon Slayer Corps. Had they not participated in the full-scale battle, the Demon Slayer Corps would have lost even before the battle started.
The first installment of the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 12, 2025.
