Chris Hansen, the TV host most known for his work on the show To Catch a Predator, is reportedly planning to create a documentary about Roblox, a video game platform mainly geared towards children. In the gaming community, the incredibly successful Roblox has gained a reputation as also being a predator hunting ground. It has increasingly become the focus of watchdog groups and activists who feel that it no longer provides a safe environment for children to hang out.
In the past, predators have successfully used Roblox to target potential child victims. According to a July 2024 report by Bloomberg, US police had arrested around two dozen people “accused of abducting or abusing victims they’d met or groomed” on the gaming platform since 2018. Recently, the family of a 13-year-old girl is suing Roblox after she was abducted by a 37-year-old man she met in the game, and the state of Louisiana filed a lawsuit against the platform in a separate case on August 14.
Roblox: To Attract a Predator?
In steps Schlep, a YouTuber who became known for exposing predators on the platform and whose videos led to six arrests… until Roblox issued a cease and desist and banned him. The developer seemingly protecting predators and punishing those seeking to drag them into the light resulted in a petition to oust Roblox Corporation CEO David Baszucki from the company. And the growing controversy has also possibly caught the attention of To Catch a Predator’s Chris Hansen himself, who has reportedly contacted Schlep and is planning a documentary about Roblox’s child predator problem.
If true, in the opinion of many, the potential call to account would be long overdue. Despite the controversies, Roblox stock value has continued to rise, which is incredibly frustrating for child safety advocates who think that Roblox Corp isn’t doing nearly enough to protect its young player base. Part of the problem, says Bloomberg, is a lack of sufficient moderation. With nearly 80 million active daily users, of which 40 percent are pre-teen, Roblox has only around 3,000 moderators.
In the opinion of others, David Baszucki is also contributing to the problem. More than once in the past, and as recently as July 2025, the CEO has declared his intentions to add a dating feature to Roblox one day. Though its purpose would be to “help loneliness and bring connection,” this plan seems to completely ignore the predator elephant lurking in the room. And Baszucki’s response to the criticism—“if you’re not comfortable, don’t let your kids be on Roblox”—seems incredibly unconcerned by the very real issue. Add to that the fact that many parents are unaware of the dangers of Roblox or what their kids are even doing on there… well, that’s a topic for another day.
