Jurassic Park: Survival Looks Like It’ll Bring Back the Suspense And Wonder Missing From The Films

There’s been no shortage of Jurassic Park games over the years, but Jurassic Park: Survival is aiming to be an authentic return to the early days of the film franchise. In a new developer diary, Saber Interactive detailed how it worked alongside Universal Pictures to make its upcoming game look and feel like it was pulled straight out of the 1993 movie that kicked off the entire film franchise.

This approach involved going hands-on with several props from the movie–like dinosaur eggs and night-vision goggles–while accurately recreating locations from the Isla Nublar island. “We go through room by room in the game, level by level. We look at every possible resource–from archives from the film, production stills, production blueprints–to make sure that every prop is in the same place,” Universal’s John Melchior said in the video.

One other grisly piece of authenticity that the game has is that carnivorous dinosaurs are more than happy to turn the protagonist, Dr. Maya Joshi, into a quick meal. From the Dilophosaurus spitting venom to the T-Rex overpowering a player, players will have to stay on their toes when they run across these ancient predators.

Developer Saber Interactive says that it’s aiming to deliver a Jurassic Park adventure with a strong story and gameplay, and while there’ll be a sense of familiarity here, players will also get to explore new locations that were only briefly mentioned in the movie. Players can expect a sense of awe and majesty with the game locations, but Saber also wants to introduce some of the more terrifying elements from Jurassic Park, like the cunning Velociraptors that terrorized the cast.

Jurassic Park: Survival doesn’t have a release date yet, but it is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans of the film franchise can also check out Jurassic World Evolution 3, as the park-building game is scheduled to launch on October 21 for PC and console. Following player backlash against a disclaimer about its use of generative AI, developer Frontier Developments says that it will no longer be using this technology in the game.
