This article contains spoilers for One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
One Piece is edging closer to the legendary God Valley Incident with each passing chapter, and fans know very well that Oda will, after 7 long years, tell the fans what exactly went down on this legendary island, and who it was that killed Rocks D. Xebec and how.
At the same time, fans never truly knew why the God Valley Incident happened in the first place. But, the moment Oda started exploring the character of Rocks D. Xebec in the Elbaf flashback, it became increasingly clear that everything would be made clear here. That’s exactly what’s happened as Oda has now officially made it known why the God Valley Incident happened, and it all has to do with Shakky.
God Valley Was First Teased In The Wano Arc
- First Mentioned In Chapter 957
- Brief Glimpse Shown In Chapter 1096
In the entirety of One Piece, if fans were to be asked one war that they wanted to see illustrated, the answer would probably be either the Void Century War or the God Valley Incident. In fact, many fans would rather witness the God Valley Incident since some of the strongest characters known in the story ended up fighting here.
Here’s the truth: In order to break apart the Rocks Pirates, Garp and Roger joined forces in God Valley! — Sengoku
The God Valley Incident has always been incredibly exciting and Oda mentioned it first in One Piece chapter 957. This is the very chapter in which Oda also went over the likes of the Rocks Pirates in detail. Back then, it was made clear to the fans that on the island of God Valley, Roger and Garp teamed up to break apart the Rocks Pirates. What exactly happened to Rocks isn’t known, but according to Segoku, he is no longer alive.
God Valley had catastrophic consequences for the rest of the One Piece world, but why exactly did this war take place? It seems that Oda has finally provided an answer to this. In One Piece 1096, Oda clarified that Rocks went to God Valley to retrieve the treasure of the Pirate Island from there. At the time, most fans assumed that the treasure in question was a Devil Fruit. Now, it appears to be Shakky.
The Reason Behind God Valley Was Shakky’s Kidnapping
Shakky Was Taken From The Pirate Island
In One Piece chapter 1157, Oda made it quite clear that around 42 years ago, Shakky retired from the life of a pirate. She then went to the Pirate Island, where she opened her own bar. Shakky was labeled the crowned jewel of the Pirate Island and was officially described as its biggest treasure. The narrator also made it quite clear that just like any other treasure, Shakky was also the target of theft.
Unfortunately, all treasures are at risk of theft. — Narrator about Shakky
Roger And Rocks Likely Went To Save Shakky
It is highly likely that 39 years ago, Shakky was kidnapped from the Pirate Island by the traitor of the Rocks Pirates, likely Silver Axe. She was then likely taken to Marijoa and could’ve been one of the prizes in the God Valley Incident. This could then have promoted Rocks to attack God Valley, and later on, brought Roger to the island as well, and all this eventually culminated in the God Valley Incident.
One Piece Chapter 1158 will be out in two weeks. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on August 31. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1158 is August 31, 2025.
