The Battle of Polytopia and Monument Valley are the Epic Games Store‘s free games for September 4. They are the third and fourth titles in the Epic Games Store’s September 2025 lineup, with the first two already available but remaining claimable until early next month.
Between August 21 and 28, Epic Games Store users were able to claim Strange Horticulture and Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge. That promotion has since ended, having been replaced with free offers of Make Way and Machinarium.
With the Epic Games Store’s August 28 freebies officially live, the storefront has also revealed the contents of its next giveaway, which will center on The Battle of Polytopia and Monument Valley. The titles will become claimable on September 4, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET. PC users will have exactly seven days, until September 11, to add them to their EGS accounts.

What Is The Battle of Polytopia?
Developed by Swedish studio Midjiwan, The Battle of Polytopia is a well-received 4X strategy game that was originally released for mobile devices in 2016 before making its way to PC and the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and 2022, respectively. Originally known as Super Tribes, it switched to its current moniker in mid-2016 due to a trademark dispute. As is typical for 4X games, The Battle of Polytopia requires players to explore, expand, exploit resources, and exterminate rivals—not always in that order. But going against the 4X grain, it offers a highly streamlined gameplay loop centered on two modes: a 30-turn score chase called Perfection and an open-ended conquest campaign named Domination. An optional creative sandbox mode was added as part of the game’s Moonrise update in 2020, coinciding with its PC release.
What Is Monument Valley?
Originally released in 2014, Monument Valley is an award-winning puzzler made by Ustwo Games. It tasks players with navigating through serene environments full of Escher-like optical illusions, all while uncovering a story that’s equal parts minimalist and mysterious.
While waiting for The Battle of Polytopia and Monument Valley, Epic Games Store users can grab Machinarium and Make Way. The former is a whimsical point-and-click adventure about a brave little robot on a grand journey, while the latter is a chaotic multiplayer title where up to six players build absurd tracks and then race on them. Neither Make Way nor Machinarium had previously been offered for free on the Epic Games Store before this newly started promotion. The Battle of Polytopia and Monument Valley are also making their debuts as EGS freebies next week. The Epic Games Store is expected to announce the contents of its September 18 weekly giveaway on September 11.
