Cyberpunk 2077 is every morsel the blockbuster sci-fi epic that it promised it would be, and there’s evidence of that being true solely due to the fact that each new scrap of potential development information, much less a full-blown update, is swept into a whirlwind of speculation. Indeed, Cyberpunk 2077’s big updates have been terrific at revealing as little as possible lately, allowing players to speculate about what content they may deliver, and the intriguing part is that anything ranging from a minor quality-of-life mechanic to story DLC is seemingly on the table, at least as far as players’ imaginations go.
Likewise, with each new update CD Projekt Red introduces for Cyberpunk 2077, it’s no clearer whether or not the game has completed its final planned patch. In fact, a rare and unsurprisingly cryptic post was made on Twitter/X this morning that addresses NUSA (New United States of America) citizens and proposes some kind of “recruitment test” as it is “seeking brave netrunners to join [its] efforts.” Stamped with a date of September 4, 2025, it won’t be long until all is revealed.
Like With All Cyberpunk 2077 Post-Launch Updates, Chooms Shouldn’t Get Their Hopes Up
Firstly, it may be in everyone’s best interests not to hoard too many eggs in this NUSA recruitment test’s basket. It’s deliberately unknown how it will take shape, especially with no explicit allusions to actual game content.
For what it’s worth, the “recruitment test” may be symbolic of a literal job listing, with CD Projekt Red in search of real-life developers, but such means would be eccentric at best and baffling at worst as the message teases a September 4 date and does not specify who its intended audience is.
Either way, there isn’t a lot of time to speculate on what this message could refer to, yet one contextual clue may be all that nova Night City residents need. Because the message is from NUSA and, specifically, President Rosalind Myers, the likeliest assumption is that it’ll have some relevance to Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC.
As to what additional Phantom Liberty content could be, if that’s actually what the post is teasing, is anyone’s guess. Otherwise, there’s a whole laundry list of hypothetical content in CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk universe that a post as vague as this one could foreshadow, particularly with a tease that seems so imminent, even if they are outrageous on paper or turn out to be false speculation, let alone pipe dreams. Admittedly, as this laundry list goes on, the conceivability factor drops dramatically:
- Again, one of the more likely possibilities is that this is CD Projekt Red’s elaborate and unorthodox tease of a job listing. However, CD Projekt Red must know that a post this opaque would rile fans up, too, so it seems like it’d be taking a risk by appearing to tease content when, in reality, it’s teasing that it’s hiring developers.
- A Cyberpunk 2077 community Photo Mode contest with a NUSA theme. Still, a several-day tease for something as trivial as a Photo Mode contest would arguably be quite disappointing.
- Something to do with the newly announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which will undoubtedly be making its way into either Cyberpunk 2077 or its sequel, Cyberpunk 2, at some point via crossover content.
- Content, in whatever size or form, embedded in the Phantom Liberty DLC that might even involve Cyberpunk 2077’s President Rosalind Myers herself.
- This one’s definitely a stretch—there’s a sliver of a chance that the post could tease Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer content in some capacity, as Myers states she will “personally welcome all who believe they have what it takes.” If this message is directed at players and not would-be employees, its broad nature might suggest something collaborative, though that sentiment could also logically circle back to the concept of a Photo Mode contest after all. Plus, something as substantial as multiplayer would probably not be wasted on a random Cyberpunk 2077 update.
Regardless, bottling unmitigated and irrational excitement is best practice with a post this intentionally shadowy to avoid dissatisfaction. If nothing else, the oddity of this post is thrilling, and it’ll hopefully be fascinating to learn what CD Projekt Red is teasing for September 4.
