Unfortunately, it looks like the developers won’t be making any announcements about new content coming to Cyberpunk 2077 this week, as the tease is related to a particular anniversary instead.
In the years following its disastrous 2020 launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has won back audiences with continued updates and patches meant to improve the player experience. While many have lamented the game’s state at launch, a CD Projekt Red executive recently stated that player backlash may have saved Cyberpunk 2077 in the long run, as public outcry spurred the developers to spend more time and energy transforming the title into the best version of itself. Now, many fans are eager for more content updates, and while a recent tease got many players’ hopes up, it looks like the upcoming announcement isn’t what most in the community were wishing for.
Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Reveal No New Content Will Be Announced on September 4
Earlier this week, a strange post on the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account teased something coming to the game on September 4. Some players hypothesized that the post was teasing a new update, while others went a step further, claiming that a new alternate reality game may be on the way. Unfortunately, it looks like both of these guesses were inaccurate, as a follow-up Tweet was made by a developer today. According to the post, no announcement or reveal about new content coming to Cyberpunk 2077 will be made on September 4. Instead, the initial tweet was “part of an activity tied to the Phantom Liberty anniversary.” The wildly popular Phantom Liberty expansion was released in September 2023 and was quickly met with critical acclaim.
In response, many players expressed frustration, questioning why the team didn’t make this clear in the initial post. Others demanded to know when new content would be coming to the title, which currently boasts around 50,000 concurrent players on Steam nearly five years after its initial release. In the meantime, characters from the game’s universe have begun appearing in unexpected places, with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners star Lucy now playable in Guilty Gear -Strive- as a DLC fighter.
Currently, CD Projekt Red is hard at work on both the highly anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 4. The latter seems to be the top priority at the Polish studio, with around 444 developers actively working on the title.
