Helldivers 2 gives players a lot of weapons and tools to use against the enemies of managed democracy. While a lot of these options are explosives or weapons that shoot hails of bullets, some have more utility uses and help Helldivers properly deliver the explosive or bullet-shaped products of capitalism.
On just about every primary and secondary weapon in the game is a flashlight, which can help only in some situations. If you happen to find yourself exploring tunnels on a Terminid Hive World that are covered in the Gloom, you’ll want to be able to see whatever is lurking in the shadows. Here’s how to turn your flashlight on and off.
How to Turn Your Flashlight On in Helldivers 2
Flashlights are already equipped on just about every primary and secondary in the game, and going to turn them on or off will also tell you if there is on. To toggle your flashlight, simply hold down the reload button until a small menu appears over your character. If there is a flashlight option, it can be toggled to on, off, or auto.
This menu won’t open when holding down the reload button if you are aiming down the sights.
If you set your flashlight to on in this menu, it will stay on whether you’re aiming down the sights, shooting, or just running around. Naturally, the system is set to auto, where the flashlight only works when you’re aiming down the sights of the gun. While it can make things more dangerous, having your flashlight always on can at least help you see every enemy before they get too close, especially deep in Terminid caves.
What Does Your Flashlight Do in Helldivers 2?
While the flashlight is great for helping you see your enemies, it’s important to know that your enemies can also use it to see you. Having your flashlight on makes you easier to spot if you’re in an enemy’s line of sight, and shining your flashlight on an enemy will also alert them to your location, even if you are hidden and behind them.
If you’re trying to be stealthy, you’ll want your flashlight off completely. While this hinders your own sight, it does the same for the enemy. Even if your mission is during the day and your flashlight is on, it will make it easier for enemies to spot you. Unless your operation is at night or deep in Terminid caves, it’s best to turn your flashlight off completely.
