In Hell is Us, much of the most compelling content is presented through a special collection of side-content called Good Deeds. Like all the quests in the game, these puzzles force the player to use their wits to follow a set of clues that lead to the solution. Because Hell is Us offers very little in the way of hand-holding, a fair amount of these puzzles can be very difficult to complete. How to Begin Love Thy Neighbor in Hell is Us
Visit the Hang Tree in Acasa Marshes:
If you spend any amount of time exploring Jova Village and Acasa Marshes, your likely to hear many of the NPCs reference a mass hanging. This event is very important to the ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ Good Deed, as the tree where the hanging takes place is where you’ll find the item that initiates the quest.
To locate the tree, you’ll want to head east out of Jova Village. You’ll first come to a small encampment with a locked gate that you cannot open until much later in the game.
From this camp, turn southeast and cross the bridge the leads over the river. After the bridge, you’ll see some ruins off to the left, and the hang tree directly ahead.
Approach the hanging tree, and you’ll see a yellow orb item marker sitting below the hanging bodies. The item is called the Bloodied Plushie, but is clearly a Teddy Bear. Picking up the Bloodied Plushie will automatically start the Love Thy Neighbor Good Deed.

Drunk Man’s Home in Western Jova Village:
Once you have the Teddy Bear in your possession, you’ll want to return to Jova Village. Your destination is the Drunk Man‘s home in western Jova Village. Head to the western edge of town, and look for the home with a save machine floating just inside the gate, and white graffiti written on the front of the house. When you enter the home, you’ll find the man sitting on the ground in his living room.
Approach the Drunk Man – whose name is eventually revealed to be Thomas Kuhn – and initiate the ‘Trade’ prompt. Give him the Teddy Bear, and he will give you the Classroom Picture in return. He will also thank you for providing him with an item that provides some closure after losing a loved one.
Where to Take the Classroom Picture in Hell is Us
Despondent Woman’s Home in Eastern Jova Village:
Once you have the Classroom Picture, you’ll want to head to the home of the Despondent Woman. She is found sitting at the table in her kitchen, and speaking with her will reveal an incredibly tragic story.
Pull up the trade window and give her the Classroom Picture. Once she is done speaking, leave the home. Once this occurs, you’ll receive a notive telling you that “Love Thy Neighbor’ is completed.
Early in Hell is Us, you’ll notice that any completed Good Deed you view in the tablet features a note that reads: “A reward may become available for this Good Deed.” Do not worry about this until you reach the Vigil Headquarters in Vyssa Hills. Eventually, the custodian of the HQ will offer you rewards for completing a variety of tasks, including accomplishing Good Deeds.
