Obi-Wan Kenobi Needs To Feature Qui-Gon Jinn In The Second Season
Liam Neeson Returned In A Brief Cameo In Obi-Wan Kenobi’s First Season
The world of Star Wars is a vast one, and given that Obi-Wan Kenobi is bridging the gap between the prequels and the original trilogy, there’s a wide range of characters who could be brought into the story. However, out of everyone in the Star Wars franchise, it is Qui-Gon Jinn who people most want to see appear in the show. He was Obi-Wan’s master and proved to be a popular character in Star Wars: A Phantom Menace, yet after his death during the duel against Darth Maul, his time in the franchise is brought to an end. Even though he’s one of the most experienced and powerful Jedi, audiences only got a glimpse of him, leaving everyone yearning for more.
The idea of Qui-Gon returning for the second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is something fans have discussed ever since the end of the original series. Liam Neeson reprised his role right at the end of the final episode in a brief cameo that shocked the Star Wars fandom. He turned up as a Force Ghost for a small scene with Obi-Wan where he made it clear he’d been beside him all along, and only now was Obi-Wan ready to see him. They embarked on the next stage of Obi-Wan’s journey together, and given that Lucasfilm has shown them back together, it would be a strange decision to omit Qui-Gon from the second season.
Star Wars Fans Want To See More From The Iconic Jedi
Qui-Gon Jinn’s Time In The Star Wars Franchise Is Only Brief
The cameo appearance of Qui-Gon in the first season instantly left fans wanting more, and the fact that another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi still hasn’t officially been announced has been a source of frustration due to this. Fans want to see Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon together in more detail, as they had such brilliant chemistry originally. Fans have always yearned for more scenes with Qui-Gon, mainly because his time in Star Wars is relatively short. He’s a level-headed, wise, and powerful Jedi, and seeing how he would impact things as a Force Ghost would be interesting. There have been many impactful scenes with Force Ghosts over the years within the Star Wars franchise, proving that it’s possible for Lucasfilm to get creative with characters in this capacity, which could easily be achieved with Qui-Gon Jinn.
Qui-Gon Jinn could Play A Key Role In Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Journey In Season Two
There Are Still Lessons That Obi-Wan Can Learn
Qui-Gon Jinn popping up for another small cameo would be entertaining, but the character could end up playing a far more significant role if the show was written that way. The entire story could be built around Obi-Wan looking to achieve a goal that requires further teachings, and that is where Qui-Gon would step in. Obi-Wan is in control of his emotions much more when he’s seen in the original trilogy when compared to the prequels; therefore, there are some clear lessons to be taught between now and that point, and it would make sense that Qui-Gon provides them. Obi-Wan is a wise and experienced Jedi by the time the series’s first season ends, but that doesn’t mean he knows everything about the Force. That is where Qui-Gon can come in and have a genuine impact. Plus, having him appear as a supporting character outside of just a brief appearance would appease fans and provide a true full-circle ending to his character and the connection he has with Obi-Wan.
There are other ways that Qui-Gon could be used, as Obi-Wan could also look to avenge him by finding Darth Maul to have one final battle against him, which is an idea George Lucas previously had that never saw the light of day. Or he could just pop up on occasion with words of wisdom, possibly helping Obi-Wan deal with the trauma he’s fighting due to how Anakin Skywalker turned out. Regardless of what Lucasfilm decides from a storytelling aspect, the key thing is for Qui-Gon to be part of Obi-Wan Kenobi, as it would appeal to fans and provide a hit of nostalgia to help draw people into watching the show in the first place.
