YouTube is doing away with the Trending page on the website. The Trending feature has been around on YouTube for a decade, so it may come as a surprise to visitors to the video sharing website.
YouTube regularly makes adjustments to the platform, with some being more popular than others. For example, YouTube changed the homepage in April 2025, altering the size of thumbnails, which users initially complained about. The service has seen a ton of changes and adjustments over its 20 years online, and the latest of them has just been introduced with the planned removal of this feature.

YouTube Makes Controversial Change to Premium Lite
YouTube Premium Lite, the less-expensive paid service tier, is making some changes, and subscribers are voicing their frustration.
Now, YouTube has announced that it is effectively replacing the Trending tab, which has been a part of the platform since 2015. In an official support post about the change, YouTube explained that in the earlier days of YouTube, it was a simple task to compile a list of the biggest trending and viral videos on the website. However, trending videos have expanded to more and more categories and sub-genres, making the Trending page less useful for users. While it still did a good job of showing the top videos, those who watch YouTube just for specific things, like gaming, specific YouTube streamers, or hobbies, could have a harder time finding the videos important to them due to limited organization, making it harder to get through the results that weren’t important to them. According to YouTube, this has also led to a drop in traffic to the page. As a result, Trending is being replaced with YouTube Charts in “the coming weeks.”
What is YouTube Charts?
YouTube Charts is a subpage that shows some of the most popular content on the website at any given time. However, it’s also divided up into subcategories that could make it more useful for fans of certain subjects. For the moment, the page has charts for trending music videos, podcasts, and movie trailers, with plans to introduce more. YouTube notes that the Gaming Explore page is, for now, the place where users can find trending gaming videos, which includes things like let’s play videos, game trailers, and the like. Recommendations will continue to be offered, which are generally based on a user’s browsing history, likes, dislikes, subscriptions, and a number of other factors.
As this change was announced just hours ago at the time of publication, it remains to be seen how remaining regular users of the Trending page take to YouTube Charts. YouTube’s recommendations have been fine-tuned to the point where many users likely didn’t even look at the Trending page, but the new Charts system’s organization and YouTube video recommendations may make it a regular stop for users.
