Destiny 2’s Edge of Fate Artifact Perks Let Players Have Their Cake, and Eat It Too

Ahead of the release of The Edge of Fate expansion for Destiny 2, the new Seasonal Artifact perks that players can unlock throughout this expansion have been revealed early. This ultimately gives players a taste of what the meta for this new era of Destiny 2’s sandbox will look like, just in time to start theory-crafting and preparing builds for when this expansion arrives on July 15.

Among several upcoming buffs for Stasis and Strand Subclass builds, this early reveal of the upcoming Seasonal Artifact has confirmed which weapons will be capable of stunning Champion enemies in Destiny 2. Surprisingly, the variety of anti-Champion weapons that players can choose from in The Edge of Fate expansion is arguably more generous than it’s ever been before. With the amount of freedom that this will provide for what kinds of weapons and builds will be viable in endgame content, the new Seasonal Artifact perks coming in The Edge of Fate expansion will let players have their cake and eat it too.

PSA: Destiny 2’s Edge of Fate Meta Is Hiding in Plain Sight

Ahead of Destiny 2’s next major expansion, The Edge of Fate, the new meta for endgame PvE and PvP has likely already been secretly revealed.

Destiny 2’s New Seasonal Artifact Perks Address a Longstanding Controversy

Ever since Champion enemies were added to endgame content, this has ultimately turned out to be a controversial feature in Destiny 2. Unlike how Banes and other difficulty modifiers can provide creative, randomized obstacles for players to overcome, Champions are often considered an artificial way to inflate the game’s difficulty through placing unnecessary restrictions on what kinds of buildcrafting tools players can use. In a looter-shooter with as many unique abilities and weapons as there are in Destiny 2, these frustrations regarding champions are arguably justified.

What Legendary Weapons are Anti-Champion Weapons in Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate?

    • Anti-Barrier Scout and Pulse: Scout rifles and pulse rifles inherently penetrate Barrier Champions’ shields.
    • Unstoppable Sidearm and Hand Cannon: Aiming down sights without firing for a short time with sidearms and hand cannons will load ammunition that can stun Unstoppable Champions.
    • Unstoppable Sniper Rifle: Aiming down sights without firing for a short time with a sniper rifle will load ammunition that can stun Unstoppable Champions.
    • Overload Shotgun: Shotguns inherently stun Overload Champions.
    • Overload Rapid Fire: Sustained fire with auto rifles and submachine guns will allow these weapons to stun Overload Champions.

Destiny 2 Isn’t Removing Champions, but They’re Now Easier to Counter Than Ever Before

Over time, Destiny 2 has addressed some of the criticisms surrounding Champions by gradually introducing more ways for players to counter and defeat these enemies. More specifically, The Final Shape expansion for Destiny 2 was widely praised for allowing players to stun champions with specific Subclass verbs, like Suspending them with a Strand ability or Freezing them with a Stasis ability. While removing Champions altogether might have been a more welcome solution, these new ways to deal with Champions still helped to address why these enemies were so controversial; players were no longer required to change their builds every in-game Season to incorporate whatever weapon types were the current anti-Champion weapons via the Seasonal Artifact perks.

Flash forward to the upcoming Fate saga for Destiny 2, with the release date for The Edge of Fate expansion on July 15 fast approaching, Champions don’t seem to be going away anytime soon, but players will now have more ways to deal with these enemies than ever before. In addition to the Subclass verbs that can still stun Champions, some of the upcoming Seasonal Artifact perks generously apply to two weapon types. Not only does this give players more freedom to use their weapons of choice, but it also allows players to get more out of their Seasonal Artifact perks by nature of having more free slots to equip additional perks, ultimately letting players have their cake and eat it too.
