Check Out This Impressive Skyrim Map Recreated Using Over 70,000 LEGO Bricks

A dedicated fan has recreated Skyrim‘s entire map using over 70,000 LEGO bricks. Veteran players know that The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim features one of the largest maps in the franchise, highlighting just how much time and effort went into the project.

With nearly 15 square miles of explorable space, Skyrim‘s map is the fifth largest in the series. It’s divided into nine holds, or regions, and packed with hundreds of landmarks and points of interest. None of this, of course, deterred one passionate fan from recreating Skyrim‘s world using an unconventional material: LEGO.

A fan of Skyrim finds inspiration in Bethesda’s game, and recreates the iconic city of Whiterun within The Sims 4, impressing fans of both games.

Ian Roomasa, a Guinness World Record holder, has recreated The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim‘s map using 73,761 LEGO bricks. The passion project took over three years to complete, with Ian spending the first nine months planning and the next two and a half years building. To put its scale in perspective, the LEGO map is an 8-foot-wide, 6.3-foot-tall raised relief model made up of 44 layers of bricks.

    • LEGO bricks used: 73,761
    • Trees: 5,776
    • Locations: 292
    • Duration: 3 years
    • Size: 8-foot-wide, 6.3-foot-tall (243 cm wide, 192 cm tall)

When discussing the zeal that sparked the project, Ian said, “It was the perfect project because it combined my passion for the game with the challenge of designing and building something so large, detailed, and with topographic detail.” His recreation includes over 5,000 trees, nearly 300 well-known Skyrim locations, and a topographically accurate depiction of rivers, waterfalls, and elevation changes.

Skyrim fans are no strangers to fan-made recreations, but Ian’s LEGO map might be the most ambitious project the community has seen yet. Support poured in under the YouTube video he shared, with many calling it one of the best things a Skyrim fan has ever built. Some viewers asked about his future plans, but Ian admitted he’s unsure whether he can top this project with another LEGO build. For now, he plans to take a break and enjoy the recently released The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered instead of dealing with LEGO bricks.

The Skyrim LEGO Map Isn’t Ian Roosma’s First Project of This Kind

Before tackling Skyrim, Ian broke the Guinness World Record in 2021 for the largest video game map built with LEGO by recreating the Hyrule map from the original Legend of Zelda on NES using over 25,000 bricks. However, his new project, the LEGO Skyrim map, is nearly three times larger. In other words, Ian has broken his own world record by building an even bigger video game map, this time for the beloved Elder Scrolls franchise.
