Happy Gilmore & Billy Madison 4K Blu-Ray Preorders Steeply Discounted At Amazon

The upcoming 4K Blu-ray editions of Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison have received big discounts at Amazon. Happy Gilmore is available to preorder for $33.49 (was $45) ahead of its August 19 release, and Billy Madison is $28 ahead of its July 29 launch. Produced by Kino Lorber, both 4K Blu-ray releases come with two discs and sleeves. These Amazon deals are notable, as Walmart is charging full price for Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore.

Happy Gilmore’s 4K Blu-ray edition hits store shelves just weeks after the classic 1996 comedy’s sequel. Happy Gilmore 2 will be available to stream on Netflix starting July 25. Billy Madison, meanwhile, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. These are the first classic Adam Sandler comedies to receive 4K Blu-ray remasters.

The only other Adam Sandler movies on 4K Blu-ray are The Criterion Collection editions of Uncut Gems and Punch-Drunk Love, both of which are on sale for 50% off for a limited time.

    $33.49 (was $45) | Releases August 19

Happy Gilmore’s new 4K Blu-ray edition is based on a new 6K scan (5460 x 4150) from the original camera negative. We don’t see very many major 4K Blu-ray releases based on 6K resolution digital remasters, so it will be interesting to see if Happy Gilmore looks noticeably better than Billy Madison’s 4K release (based on 4K scan). It also has support for HDR (HDR10 and Dolby Vision).

The two-disc edition includes a brand-new audio commentary on the 4K and 1080p discs. The standard Blu-ray disc comes with the 20-plus minutes of deleted scenes and bonus content from previous Blu-ray releases.

Here’s the full list of features:

Happy Gilmore 4K Blu-ray Edition Features

    Disc 1: 4K Blu-ray

    • 4K Blu-ray is based on new 6K scan of original camera negative (triple-layered UHD100 Disc).
    • Dolby Vision and HDR10
    • 5.1 Surround Sound and 2.0 Stereo Audio
    • New Audio Commentary featuring Bryan Connolly and Billy Gilmore podcast host Wilson Smith
    • English subtitles

    Disc 2: Blu-ray

    • 1080p HD remaster is based on new 6K scan of original camera negative (dual-layered BD50 Disc)
    • 5.1 Surround Sound and 2.0 Stereo Audio
    • New Audio Commentary featuring Bryan Connolly and Billy Gilmore podcast host Wilson Smith
    • 6 Deleted Scenes (18 minutes)
    • Outtakes (5 minutes)
    • Remastered theatrical trailer
    • English subtitles

    $28 (was $45) | Releases July 29

As mentioned, Billy Madison’s 4K Blu-ray release is based on a 4K scan from the 35mm original camera negative. It also has support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

Like Happy Gilmore’s 4K edition, there’s a new audio commentary featuring Bryan Connolly and Wilson Smith. Previous Blu-ray editions of Billy Madison also featured an audio commentary with director Tamra Davis. That commentary is included on both the 4K and 1080p discs. Billy Madison has more deleted scenes and outtakes than Happy Gilmore (over 37 minutes combined).

More Adam Sandler Movies on 4K Blu-ray

Adam Sandler – The Criterion Collection

As mentioned, two notable Adam Sandler movies already have 4K Blu-ray releases, but that’s because they are part of the Criterion Collection. Unsurprisingly, neither film–Uncut Gems and Punch-Drunk Love–is “traditional” Sandler. That said, he was fantastic in both movies, and the excellent Criterion Collection editions are on sale for 50% off in Amazon’s massive Criterion Collection sale.

If you’re interested in pairing the upcoming 4K edition of Billy Madison with additional Sandler flicks, you’ll be glad to know most of the classics are available on Blu-ray. Some of his newer films (like all the Netflix releases) are limited to streaming, but hits like Big Daddy and Mr. Deeds are available for cheap on Blu-ray, including Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, which are available in a combo pack for only $10. Another notable bundle is Big Daddy and Mr. Deeds for only $9.49.
