The wait for one of Netflix’s most anticipated shows is almost over as Stranger Things Season 5 is set to make a huge comeback in 2025. The eagerly-awaited fifth and final installment has almost reached its boiling point as fans prepare themselves for what looks to be the show’s most emotional and tragic season yet. However, after Stranger Things season 5’s newest teaser, fans aren’t too convinced by Vecna’s newest design and have described the humanoid being as looking “Grinch-like”.
Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the hit fantasy-horror show returned for an exciting season 4 in 2022 to further play out the story of Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven and her friends in Hawkins, Indiana, as they take on the sinister forces of the Upside Down. Netflix announced that production wrapped on Stranger Things season 5 in late December 2024, and now that supernatural lovers know the exact release date for its final season, eager fans can’t wait to see the return of Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, and Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers. But the question now is, which of the beloved main characters will actually survive Vecna’s wrath until the closing credits?

Vecna’s Weird Appearance in Stranger Things Season 5 Has Fans Baffled
Over on Reddit, Stranger Things fans have been discussing Vecna’s appearance in season 5’s newest teaser, and to say that they aren’t best pleased with it would be an understatement. Not only do many think the monster is now weirder looking than ever before (and that’s saying something), but they are also calling the humanoid “the Grinch” due to its unusual pear-shaped body. Aren’t “monsters” meant to look scary? According to fans, Vecna may actually provide some comedic relief.
“I cannot take him seriously,” said the Reddit poster. “He’s way more the Jim Carey version than the new cartoon,” replied another Stranger Things fan, as another commenter echoed how they felt about Vecna’s design, stating, “Compared to the mind flayer, Vecna is really not all that.” One humorous fan believes that due to Vecna being exposed to “tubular 80s jams’ in season 2, its weakness has now been found out and has done a number on its body.
However, seriously speaking, the reason that Vecna probably looks so different now is due to the massive showdown in season 4’s finale, where Steve, Nancy, and Robin set Vecna on fire in the Upside Down, as well as being blasted with a shotgun, sending him flying out of the window. With his savage looking and massive clawed hand, it seems as though Vecna is truly on the war path this time around and willing to do a lot of damage.
For those wanting to catch up before the last season ever, Stranger Things Seasons 1 to 4 are available to stream on Netflix right now, with the final Season 5 set to premiere in three parts between November 26th and December 25th, with the finale releasing on December 31st.
